If we could get 67 senators to agree that either one needed to go... there wouldn't be any question of whether we could block a nomination.

The process of holding the trial would take days, if not weeks, off the calendar.

The "requirement" is entirely within their own rules (which can be changed) and they also have the option to begin the trial immediately and then dismiss the charges.

Plus... Pelosi would be safe in her district even after such a vote... but she would be the minority leader (at best) if she forced Democrats in close districts to vote for it.

He’d likely be forced to do it again. If he had any chance of not taking it up, he would have done it then.

They had the option of voting to dismiss it right away... it just would have been politically damaging to do so.

That wouldn't be the case this time.

No hearings for months in the House? Just a vote to impeach? And the impeachable offense is that the president nominated someone to fill an empty seat on the court? McConnel would milk that puppy for all it was worth and it would cost us in November... and he would still get his nominee (and now the ability to replace Thomas and quite possibly Breyer over the next four years).

Roberts would preside. There would be many procedural votes and every Senator would have to be heard.

Presiding over impeachment is entirely ceremonial. Any decision he might make (and he wouldn't make any) can be overruled by the majority

Did you not learn that "Roberts would preside" stuff was nonsense earlier this year?

The House does Impeachment. The Senate does Confirmation.

While the House is wasting their time with Impeachment, the Senate will be moving right along with the Confirmation process.

And takes up the articles of impeachment.

The senate could quickly take them up and vote then down, but it could slow the process

The House is quite capable of fast-tracking impeachment. They have plenty of material to work with.

It's a thought. Somewhere in the last 20 hours I saw that Speaker Pelosi indicated that she is armed with options and was not interested in discussing them at present.

Tomorrow's Monday...
