(44,973 posts)Are we going to keep jumping through hoops because of the crap he says?
I have nothing against voting early in person, by the way.
I am just saying, he clearly only wants to count the votes cast for him, regardless of how they were cast.

(50,985 posts)Are we going to pretend it isn't there?
I'm not.

(44,973 posts)People already requested a huge number of absentee ballots. For crying out loud, people in several states are already voting absentee.
It's a legal way to cast a ballot.
mzmolly
(50,985 posts)cares what's legal? Or that his hand picked court(s) will not deliver for him?
I have also requested an absentee ballot. That doesn't preclude me from exercising other options.
LisaL
(44,973 posts)I am not sure what your state allows you to do, but I now have to vote absentee. OH doesn't allow you to change your mind.
mzmolly
(50,985 posts)Again I plan to vote in person regardless, but it's good to know what options are given who we're dealing with.

Oh he may declare himself the winner...so what! doesnt make it so
Biden has amassed a team of 600 attorneys to deal with any shenanigans. I think hes got this covered.

(31,109 posts)Does everybody understand we cant live in a place where the election was openly stolen and half the country and the GOP are good with it, we will have to DO SOMETHING, and that is the problem.
Doing nothing is not an option.

(15,585 posts)Wouldnt any litigation have to go through state court, all the way to the states Supreme Court, before getting appealed to SCOTUS. Isnt that what happened in Florida in 2000?
If a state counts and certifies a result that is outside the margin for a recount, federal judges wouldnt enter in the picture.

(34,857 posts)Litigation doesn't just jump to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court only heard the Florida case because the Bush team appealed the Florida Supreme Court's recount ruling - and even then, they still had some legal justification in doing so (deadlines + Gore was pushing only a partial recount, not a full recount).
Florida was an anomaly. It just was. You can have a thousand presidential elections and something like that probably won't happen in any of 'em.
What Trump is saying is he's going to go to the courts to discount mail-in ballots. Even conservative justices aren't going to just rule for him because, gosh, Trump is a Republican and appointed them so they must. There is no grounds to contest mail-in ballots through the courts systems. It just isn't going to happen. It's all bluster.

(14,565 posts)Barr is not going to rant about buying and selling votes and then coast through the election without doing anything.
This was always going to be full Roy Cohn
Ballots will be seized and counting stopped. That's why I don't really care about polling anymore. Barr's statements last week were more relevant than polling.
This will be the 5th Avenue election. Trump doesn't care if you know he just shot democracy in the face

We are now in the power paradigm. Bring your power, or live under the rule of the asshole and his minions. Not where I want to be, just where we are at.
