There is a PDF guide to absentee voting included in the link. You might want to confirm with your board of elections, but it sounds like they would let you vote on election day if you bring your absentee ballot with you.

"If I request an absentee ballot, can I change my mind and still vote at my regular polling place?
If the ballot has been voted and returned to and received by the board of registrars, then the
absentee ballot shall be deemed to have been voted. No other ballot shall be issued.
If you still have the absentee ballot and give it to the poll manager of the precinct in which your
name appears on the electors list, then the elector may vote a regular ballot.
If you have not received an absentee ballot, or if you have returned the absentee ballot, but the
registrars have not received the ballot, you may cancel the absentee ballot by appearing in person
before the registrar or absentee ballot clerk and making a written request to have the ballot
marked “cancelled.” After satisfying themselves as to your identity, the registrars or absentee
ballot clerk shall grant the request and notify the managers of your precinct to permit you to vote
in person at that precinct.
Canceled absentee ballots are handled in the same manner as those returned too late to be cast."

If you request and return an absentee ballot, you cannot change your mind and vote in person. Once you return your absentee ballot, you have voted.

thanks

and vote on election day if you turn your ballot in.
However you can also fill out your absentee ballot early and drop it at a drop off location. What would be you concern with doing that?

about absentee voting.

My plan was to fill it out and take it to a drop box.

as unused, you will be allowed to vote regular ballot. You might want to verify that with your board of elections. Not sure if you would be able to do that for early voting. Again, you might want to call your board of elections and ask.
I can't do that in OH. I requested an absentee ballot, I am now locked into voting absentee.

in an un-used ballot if one decides to vote in person.
But my state doesn't do it.

for my ballot (not sure if it was a request for Absentee voting?) at the Bd of Elections before proceeding to the registration confirmation area where one provided that form and one's photo ID; turned around and continued to a voting machine with a touchscreen. When I voted the next time, the county had changed to a still different machine and I received the manila folder into which the paper taped verification of my ballot choices was supposed to be retained for "protection of privacy?" across the room to be collected through another slot-machine like device.

FWIW: I'd be sure I knew, in advance, where that drop box was located if located out-doors; if it's not there, I'd go inside and ask where you might drop your completed paper ballot.
