I think DT should fill the SCOTUS seat before the election, BECAUSE it will remove the issue from

the election & iffy Pubs would still stay home, but Dems & Indis would flock to the polls to insure that the Dems get the majority in both houses & the Presidency. It would also turn more people against Moscow Itch! don't really see there's much chance to prevent the vote anyway.

When the election doesn't go his way, he'll whine to SCOTUS that "they cheated" and voila, anointed king for life.

Filling the seat before the election might well be viewed as "good enough" by many marginal Trump voters who hate him and his divisiveness, but generally want a conservative country. There's some unacknowledged risk in this for Trump - with only slim margins for winning, he needs those voters. There will be some, and maybe even a significant number, who say "We got what we wanted on the court; let's get back to being able to talk to our neighbors and family members again."

That said, it's a disastrous result: even if we have the Senate, House, and Presidency, a generation of 6-3 hard right rulings on the court render the rest of it moot. they will transform this country into a hard right hellscape. Look at the damage the 5-4 majority has already done on voting rights and income inequality. Wishing for this to win the election is fairly self-defeating.

with whatever restrictions we determine to eliminate this BS of battling the SCOTUS interpretation for good. We could aso address the rest of the battle issues and put them to bed!

Will overwhelmingly turn the court into a Conservative stronghold for years to come. Going against the will of the people on many issues. Is that what is best for the nation? I think notl

6. If he fills the seat now, that may be enough for some never-Trump Rs to not vote for him

If #Traitor wins, he's going to fill it anyway. Might as well get it over with and maybe help some Rs decide to stay home which will help us with down ballot races.

If he loses, and it's been held off, #MoscowMitch will fill it during the lame duck.

It's going to be filled no matter what.

We need to win so we can install 4 more justices. 12 to match the 12 Circuit Court judges plus the Chief Justice, so 13 total. It's long overdue.

that and is feinting enthusiasm for it while signalling quietly to Collins and the other vulnerable repug senators that it's all right to come out against voting on it before the election.

He's a total skank though so no matter what happens in November he won't hesitate to have trump do a lame duck SCOTUS appointment.

There has to be a lot of Republicans that are not crazy about voting for Donald Trump. If a Justice was already chosen, they would have less incentive to vote.

The importance of Supreme Court picks has flipped, we're now Five Points ahead of conservatives who think the Supreme Court is a very important part of their vote, it was 9 points in the conservatives favor in 2016

Let's just give up because it'll be so bad we'll get them next time. That about it?

We're about to lose the SC to the ultra-right wingers for a generation, if we ever get it back. Fuck that shit.

It would behoove the turd to NOT allow a vote on the seat until AFTER the election. That would ensure he gets all his rabid voters, PLUS the ones who are disillusioned with him, yet think the Supreme Court judges are Numero Uno as the single most important issue in the election. That also allows all the senators who are mumbling about NOT voting for a judge replacement BEFORE the election, to immediately flip and vote for a judge replacement the day AFTER the election.

But I am sure they are already planning those exact strategies. If I can figure it out, so can they. And I am not the brightest bulb on the pagan winter solstice celebration tree.

That whole scenario runs against everything our democracy stands for.

Either way, even if the turd loses, he will still make the appointment during the lame duck session. (Whereupon, in my opinion, the turd will promptly resign, order Pence to pardon him, and immediately board his private plane to Saudi Arabia, where he will continue following Putin's orders to continue the chaos and disorder agenda.)

For the democrats to give up and allow the vote would be, essentially, signaling surrender. The optics of that are not very good. Talk about demoralizing the troops...

UNLESS, immediately after Biden is sworn in, Kavanaugh is impeached for lying to Congress (it can be proven). THAT would negate the new judge. To replace Kavanaugh, Biden should appoint Anita Hill, who is very qualified to fill the seat, AND it would help Biden to be forgiven for participating in the Clarence Thomas approval travesty. Clarence Thomas, who is already making noises about stepping down, could not stand being on the same bench with Hill, and immediately step down, citing health issues.

Maybe some of the other justices would then consider throwing in the towel. I'm sure right now they think, even though they are conservative, giving the turd the power to appoint yet more judges may be a bridge too far.

The only kink I see is if enough pressure is put on Thomas to cause HIM to resign and allow the turd to appoint HIS replacement. If that is the case, we are truly fucked as far as the court goes.

But as another poster commented, MUCH of this shit could be addressed through legislation that would bypass any possible SC intervention.

However, to fight the possibility of the scenario I envisioned in the first paragraph, I want the democratic party to throw up EVERY POSSIBLE OBSTACLE to allowing a judge to be appointed by any rules other than what were used for Merrick Garland. The Grand Old Party of Putin can't have it both ways.

Yet ANOTHER IMPEACHMENT TRIAL??? Bring. It. On.

The democrats have to PROVE they have a spine, and that they will take any steps within their power, to halt the final nails being driven into the coffin lid of American democracy.
