Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOnce again I approach bed time with no earthly idea how nearly half the country can
support such an utter failure of a president, and of a human being. Warning - rant below.
So today's rant was set off by this line from an article on a local news website
The title of the article - "Pandemic could eliminate aspects of daily routine forever"
the link - https://www.wral.com/coronavirus/pandemic-could-eliminate-aspects-of-daily-routine-forever/19297629/
The line that set me off - "Were seeing behavior change, but its mainly happening in people who believe in the science," said Robyn Gershon, clinical professor of epidemiology at New York University's School of Global Public Health."
Believe in science? What the ever loving fuck! Science isn't optional. It IS.
Do these fucking assholes use cell phones - and realize that those phones work because of science - and scientists?
Do they listen to the radio to get their daily dose of ignorance and hate? Bingo - science, and scientists
Do they watch their fucking daily lie and hate fest on Faux to shrink their already pea sized brains? Hey assholes - guess what - TV - invented by scientists. TVs, radios - didn't just appear because some fucking right wing crazy TV evangelical prayed them into existence.
Do these assholes stay stuck to the earth instead of floating rapture-like to their beloved heaven? Yep - gravity. Science.
HOW THE HELL CAN PEOPLE FIND SCIENCE OPTIONAL?
Yes, the trumpers are a cult. Yes, they are impenetrable - they are lost to all reason and sanity. Forget em.
One last thought - once more. Values. The reason I can never befriend or have anything to do with a trumper - a republican (they mean the same thing these days) is VALUES. Any asshole that shares the values of that orange monster - no thanks. No way - and never again. Fuck em.
(yes I am a scientist and that line that set me off is simply a complete insult to anything even remotely related to intelligence. Nearly half of the country has their brain rotted out of their head).

(23,970 posts)...I read about this. I am still baffled that so many people find this crude, common, crass, coarse and cruel man appealing.
I really thought we were better than this, and I am distraught that we are not.

That was a poll from 2013, so the percentage might be even smaller now?

He had mentioned some kind of science-denying idiocy by Bush Jr., whatever it was.
Yeah, I wonder when she lost her curiosity about the world and embraced ignorance?

(51,584 posts)That is why we are in this disaster as a country. I taught 1st grade and Science and facts were gobbled up by my students. They preferred non-fiction to fiction. In fact they loved learning facts. When and where do they get this much "stupid" from as they get older? Their family, their church, their community?

(19,192 posts)at the most. They have no use for education, and much prefer emotion (the reptilian brain) for dealing with their day-to-day lives. Their unwavering love for god and guns demonstrates their irrational reaction to the realities of an increasingly complex world. That's my take on it anyway, BP.

(8,090 posts)was interviewed and said he doesn't necessarily like what comes out of Trump's mouth, but he'll vote for him again because the stock market is booming and he and his wife haven't had to dip into any reserves. Many Americans turn a blind eye to all the bad/insanity as long as they're doing well financially. I have a family member who insists he's doing better financially than at any point in his life so he couldn't care less about how vile Trump is. A friend rolling in the dough up on Long Island jokes that he's a selfish bastard and can't wait to vote for Trump again. "It's the economy, stupid." I'm dismayed at how many Americans are bullies and selfish assholes.
(Sorry, that didn't have to do with science, but it's not that some of these people don't "believe in science," they just believe in money more.)

(1,261 posts)Trump inherited the entire recovery from Obama, Biden. Its the continuation of what they began, yet Trump leads in the polls on the economy. Its maddening.

(19,192 posts)that the stock market is no longer an indicator of how the economy is doing. These are the people that have more money than brains, and the reason they have more money than brains is because of people with advanced educations who are investing their money for them. Left to their own devices they would all have invested in toilet paper and Hydroxychloroquine.

(972 posts)That will not be put back together anytime soon. Maybe in a few decades but definitely not in the short term. Trump is a symptom of the problem not the cause of it, although he doesn't help. All these people existed before Trump and helped him get elected. Trump is a result of decades of unraveling of the very fabric of this nation. He didn't start this. He tapped into and exacerbated it but it was definitely there before him. And it's only going to get worse. You think they are bad now, wait until they are out of power.
This is the new normal for the foreseeable future regardless of who is president.

(7,700 posts)All animals do what they think will enable them to survive. The concept of wrong, or right is a very recent development in the history of our species. We are not very good at it. And we often find "good" people who despite of how highly they think of themselves, are still just scared little animals trying to find a hole to hide in. In the case of Trump supporters, they find comfort in his hateful lies. He makes it easy for them to hate us.
I hope that helps.
SergeStorms
(19,192 posts)what they want to believe in. If it supports their political views, they accept the science. See - cell phones. If it doesn't support their political views, they don't believe a word of it. See - COVID-19. They see no hypocritical or ethical difference between the two choices, and that's what makes them utterly deplorable.

(1,849 posts)I've had similar thoughts, feelings, reactions to ignorant, antiscience statements; both in the local arena and the national one.
I don't think it's half the country, more like a third plus that support him, and don't believe in science. I'm often amazed by how ignorant people can be.
As a social scientist, I've seen enough evidence of 45 losing support, a few here, a few more there. And he's fired up his opposition, which includes the Democrats, many independents, and even members of his party, like the Lincoln project. Many more of us will turn out to vote than in 16. I admit a bit of concern that RBG's seat may encourage some who had thought not to vote for him to do so for the sake of a conservative supreme Court. But I still have hope, and believe we must remain positive. Many cult 45 members are haters, but some are just poor misguided souls. Almost all are unscrupulous hypocrites or self-righteous fools.
They make a big noise, but there aren't enough of them to give him the win, even if some vote twice. They will have their own protests and demonstrations when their leader loses. Biden will actually lead the country and will rely on science, explain why everyone needs to wear a mask, provide clear guidelines, timelines. The loud cult members will protest, grumble, plot, crawl back under their rocks when they realize they are the minority. That's what I tell myself.

(2,809 posts)Along with the stratification treatment of wait staff and other public service personnel seems to come with what few local red-hatted idiots I see. Echoes of the red-hatted antediluvian fool I had the displeasure to have as a client prior to the 2016 elections stating loudly, publicly that "Above all Donald Trump will be an HONEST president!!!"
I doubt the person who said that foible is still in a living condition.
But there's little doubt where such a fool got all his news and information, and along with the "American Exceptionalism" shit, a fair likelihood of having long alienated many of his younger progeny.
Our dumbest cousin's choice for leadership has accomplished bringing the ugliness out in their followers for all to see.
