Once Biden is president and the dems have the Senate I am praying they will have the cojones to abolish the 60 vote rule AND increase the number of Justices on the Supreme Court to 13. I do believe we need more as I hate the idea that one Justice has the power to swing the decisions so easily.

(19,264 posts)that is the first battle and there is already grumblings about not doing that.
Honestly even ignoring the SCOTUS I don't see how anything progressive gets passed with the cloture vote in place. There will be zero Republican support for anything coming from Biden. Zero not a few not one but zero.
So:
raising minimum wage - not going to have 60 votes
public option for ACA - not going to have 60 votes
police reform - not going to have 60 votes
raising taxes on the rich - not going to have 60 votes
any sort of student loan relief/forgiveness - not going to have 60 votes
60 votes ensures Biden will not be able to accomplish anything. I mean I don't even get the debate we saw this with Mitch when Obama was President. Nothing will pass. Absolutely nothing will pass. Then the GOP will run in 2022/2024 on a message that the Democrats are "do nothing" and elect them if you want to fix washington.
No super majority is coming so unless cloture is gone nothing will happen. I understand the risk but the time has come to take that risk.

And if anybody is pinning their hopes on it, be prepared for major disappointment. The idea is being tossed around like it's as easy as turning on the lights. It's not. IF, and that's a ginormous IF, the PTB even attempt it there are so many considerations and complications it would be a blessed miracle if it succeeded. We can't even get our whole caucus to vote in unison half the time. Bah.
We'd better fight like hell right now while we can.
