Woman Charged With Hate Crime After Assault On Black Jogger
WOODSIDE, QUEENS The woman caught on video throwing a glass bottle and shouting a racist slur at a Black jogger in Queens has been arrested, police said Monday.
Woodside resident Lorena Delaguna, 53, faces hate-crime charges of attempted assault and aggravated harassment in connection with the Aug. 17 attack, according to an NYPD news release.
Tiffany Johnson, who has publicly identified herself as the jogger in the video, was running past the corner of 53rd Place and Broadway about noon that day when a white woman threw a bottle at her and shouted, "Get out of here, n-r, go back to Africa," according to the New York Post.
Johnson, 37, spoke out about the attack in a Facebook post last week, after a video of the altercation surfaced online and went viral.
"Racism is truly real and alive even in a diverse area like Astoria/Woodside Queens, NY," she wrote. "My freedom, my time, my humanity matters, my body matters. I hope this helps to raise awareness to a real issue. #runningwhileblack or literally doing ANYTHING while black."
