So i am pretty sure im not a pill person

my mom just had knee surgery and they gave her oxy and some other pain pills therma something maybe.

she followed the pain meds plan. 2 oxy and then more later.

it totally zombied her out she didnt like them. said she would rather fight the pain.

i know rush loved his oxys so i wasnt sure why my mom was so anti them. lots of people are on them and love them. get addicted.

so i decided to try 2 myself. ive hardly needed pain meds in my life thank goodness so i was clueless. im a weed guy.

wow. zombie is right. i didnt feel pain but i wasnt feeling pleasure either lol was feeling nothing. in a fog a haze. like mentally drunk but not physically drunk.

next day i was still a bit fogged out.

wasnt a good feeling for me either. i cant really see how people do these unless they have to for the pain. i sure wouldnt want to walk around like that all day when i wasnt in pain.

maybe yall have had different reactions but i am not a fan of oxys.

1. I've never had oxys, so I don't know how they would make me feel.

I have had hydrocodone on a few occasions, and it did take care of pain, but did not make me feel really out of it.

I have had actual opium a few times (from rinsing it off poppy seeds) and that totally knocked me on my ass, and the effects lasted for a loooong time. This is a good resource to have in case you are in excruciating pain and can't access conventional pain meds. I wouldn't recommend doing it casually or carelessly though.

Then in the 70s, I did full scale research.
So in the 80s I was in rehab.

I never liked opiates. I guess I didn't like not being able to poop.

oxy is scary good. Takes the pain right away... but yes, you walk around "floating" like you aren't connected to the earth.

I try to stay away from it and tell anyone I know to stay away... I'm not an "addictive person" but the few times I've used Oxy... I can sure see why so many fall to it.

5. I can't take any of that stuff.

Anything much stronger than Tylenol makes me throw up. Doesn’t stay in my system long enough to have any other effect. It’s not fun when there is injury or surgery involved, but there’s no chance of addiction because there’s no chance I would take anything like that.

6. Sadly, not being in pain is the best way to rest and heal.

I don't like opiates, either. They dry the mouth and cause constipation. The dry mouth alone was enough to turn me into a crazy person, ordering my husband to give me ice chips and water and ignore the medical staff's order not to.

7. I was given oxys once, for a couple of broken ribs.

Bear in mind I use no intoxicants of any kind, so I’m not a good measuring stick for these sorts of things, but it took exactly one dose for me to decide rib pain and no laughing for six weeks was preferable.

What an awful feeling that was! And to think people put themselves onto the street chasing that sensation. Not for me.

allowed me to sleep and greatly helped the pain. I had a 7 day supply and I was tempted to ask for another prescription. I didn't because I needed to get up and move. I can really appreciate how quickly people can become addicted to these things especially if they have an enabling physician.

9. My wife had hip replacement surgery a few years ago.

They told her she'd be in the hospital for two or three days. She came home the next day. Why? Because she refused the opioid pain medications the morning after her surgery, and was acing her physical therapy.

Well, she didn't actually refuse the meds. She said, "Do I have to take this?" The nurse smiled and said, "Nope."

She had some pain, but hated the way the pain meds made her feel. She preferred to deal with the pain. So, she wasn't drugged out and could do all the things PT wanted her to be able to do before discharging her.

They're good to take if you're going to do a lot of reading. For pain, they seem to be about the same as hydrocodone, but last longer.
