1. Not only are we less democratic, we're in danger of losing democracy entirely.

I despise everything the Republican Party stands for, but I have to recognize that they have played the long game and nearly achieved Karl Rove’s goal of permanent one-party rule by Republicans. He has been a master strategist in getting the Party to this stage. I think McConnell has been right there with him. I have a relative who has been part of the Republican Party staff, and a few years ago he started talking about the US as a republic, not a democracy. I never quite understood the purpose, but Trump’s plan to use Republican legislatures to overturn the popular vote is a legacy of the republic form of government.

We Democrats need someone who is as strategic as Rove and McConnell in planning ahead and organizing. We need to be as ruthless as they have been in fighting for every advantage, though I think Democrats can do it without the lying, cheating, voter suppression, and all the other dirty tricks. I don’t know who that person is, but we need him/her now. Maybe Stacy Abrams.

Powell was the one who came out with the idea of a Republican Party tv channel.

Weyrich championed enlisting evangelicals and voter suppression.

a republic, and they're right, but we are not a republic in the same way as the old Roman republic. There are all kinds of republics; there is the People's Republic of China, for instance. But we are a democratic republic, which means we're governed by representatives who are chosen by a majority of voters.

Most of us wouldn't want to live in a pure democracy. A nation the size of ours couldn't exist as a pure democracy. Besides, we wouldn't want every decision to be made by a majority vote. Rights, for instance, shouldn't be left up to popular vote. But we want our representatives chosen by the people so that they'll be responsive to our needs and our wishes. Some on the right act as if we should be governed by stand-ins, not true representatives. They want a republic ruled by aristocrats, or a House of Lords without a House of Commons.

leaders have been relegated to just pointing horrors out vs. actually being part of a plan with solutions on how to stop him. More apparent every day that Trump is a runaway train. We are left with only voting and (hoping it will be fair) to stop him. Sad state of affairs.
