https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election/donald-trump-ruth-bader-ginsburg-supreme-court-breonna-taylor-boo-chant-b580394.html
Donald Trump said he could hardly hear opponents chant vote him out! as he stood beside the casket of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Thursday morning, claiming he was too far away to make out what the crowd was saying.Meantime, though the president has not talked to the family of Breonna Taylor, he said he sends his regards to her family and called her death in a police shootout with her boyfriend a sad situation.
On Thursday morning, Mr Trump and First Lady Melania Trump stood atop the high court steps beside Ms Ginsburgs casket. A few seconds after they emerged, the crowd outside was silent .

(11,726 posts)It is completely appropriate for people to redress their grievances with their "government" at any time. He took the job and fucked it up so bad that he doesn't get invited to Senators' funerals, Funerals for civil rights icons, or other events that every other President is expected to be at. Trump is fair game wherever he goes. You think Ginsberg would want his stupid ass there?
Trump respects no one and his presence there at the head of the casket of an icon of women's rights, a judicial trailblazer, is a slap in the face.

When the crowd realizes he's there, there's a sound like scalded cats for about 20 seconds that finally coalesces into a "Vote him out" chant. After putting up with that for a few seconds, Trump and the Third Lady skulk back into the safety of the building.

(85,984 posts)...the image is unmistakable to most of us who know this to be a literal truth about Trump and his bunker mentality. Trump hiding from Americans confronting him, and slinking away into the recesses of government installations.
No need at all to clarify what we see with our own eyes. No cause at all to defend him by providing another angle he can use to isulate himself from our impressions. This is the image most Americans will see and understand.

bigtree
(85,984 posts)...its their Putin-loving coward of a president being bluntly schooled by a non-descript line of mourners gathered to show their respects that they don't appreciate his mere presence, much less his entire being.
Give it another minute for Trump to open his mouth about the late Justice and you'll wish you were there jeeering him.
UTUSN
(70,671 posts)I'm talking about potential blowback. That's what we got from the WELLSTONE service and OBAMA's roast. Believe me, I fully understand and share the mourners' jeering.
bigtree
(85,984 posts)...directly registering their complaints to this interloper to the proceedings.
Like I said, it will be just a minute until Trump trashes Justice Ginsburg (again) - having virtually announced his intention to replace her on the day of her death - and no one can credibly claim that the crowd of mourners was unjustified in their anger at the arrogance and gall of Trump to pretend to pay respects. He's there for one purpose, to rub his assumed power in our faces. There's nothing republicans have on mourners there which trumps that.
UTUSN
(70,671 posts)the WELLSTONE mourners' jeering the Repuke congresscritters, OBAMA's roast, and now the GINSBURG mourners (of whom I am one). I never said the jeers at SHITLER were unjustified. I am simply noting that OUTSIDE VIEWERS who are not politically committed are potentially swayed with distaste.
What I *do* disagree with you about is that these are "mourners of every stripe." I really really doubt that there are significant numbers of wingnuts, Repukes, or Deplorables among the GINSBURG mourners.
I often have a bit off-kilter, unfiltered impressions that seem to irritate my soulmate Dems.

betsuni
(25,437 posts)The reason he married Marla Maples is because he thought it would help him, if he ran for president, with Southern voters. His first run was in 2000. The idea that he decided to run because of that dinner is incorrect.
UTUSN
(70,671 posts)I'm sure you have heard that the roasting burned him up and was a factor of whatever slight amount to push him into it.
You know, we all have our impressions, there's no earthshaking right or wrong answer here.
Caliman73
(11,726 posts)We cannot stop expressing ourselves because right wingers are perpetual victims.
They will always complain and the media will run with it because conflict sells. We are "expected to be polite" but they can do whatever horseshit they want. We cannot continue to let that frame stand.
Trump called Obama's citizenship and legitimacy into question in a racist way. President Obama responded with very light ribbing. It may well have made Trump want to run out of spite. It, however, explains nothing about how he was taken seriously as a candidate and how he got elected. Those are issues of the complete ROT within the Republican Party and of the complicity of the media to normalize an idiot like Trump.
President Obama's making fun of Trump had NOTHING to do with why that idiot is in the White House.
What we need to do is fight back on the framing. People are exercising their right to criticize an idiot who threatens the very Democracy that RBG fought her whole life, to defend. The office of the presidency has been so debased by Trump that his presence ANYWHERE does nothing to honor anything.
UTUSN
(70,671 posts)The point in your reply that I will clarify is that I didn't say the roasting had anything to do with SHITLER being in the White House. I said it tipped him into running. He had been "flirting" with running for years, mostly for his ego self-stroking and pondering that it would make money for the brand, plus that it is widely reported that he never expected to win all the way to Election Night. It is also widely reported that the roasting burned him up, plus that some in his circle told him to crap or get off the toilet after hearing him "flirt" about it for so long.
I really don't think that I can be accused of not "exercising my right to criticize" SHITLER.
O.K., am vacating this particular battle.
