My Mother was a Lady Air Raid Warden..

World War II, Portland, Oregon. There was some concern that the Japanese military would be able to mount some kind of attack on the west coast of the US.

Civilian volunteers worked by the thousands to make sure EVERY light was out during air raid warnings. They searched for light switches, pounded on doors, invaded hotels, and ordered the few automobiles remaining on the streets with unshielded headlights to the curbs, They walked the streets checking for open curtains in houses, and told smokers to conceal or extinguish their cigarettes.

Mom was one of those wardens, I'm proud to say. She participated in a community effort to keep everyone safe. And most people complied, with the knowledge that violating the blackout would put everyone in danger.

Mom would understand the need for everyone to wear masks.

leave their lights on, and similar BS.

Thanks to your mom. Of course, we had leaders back then who people looked to for guidance.
