(182,590 posts)A. I would not at all be surprised if this gets screwed up completely
B. Packaging will be key. There are so many credit card offers that I get, and Im sure order people do too, that when I feel a card in an envelope it goes directly into the trash.

That be half of one prescription we have.

(42,278 posts)There's various tier levels and depending upon which tier, they cover more, or less of the cost. Tier 3 is bad.

(42,278 posts)with selecting Part D. I felt like I needed a PhD in Medicare options to wade through it.
I have no idea how older people, who are less computer savvy, could handle the mess that is the Medicare website.
Still, we were able to select a good plan for her - one that covered her many medications. It was about $35/month.
Next year, the premium doubled but it was still the best option - given our rural area. So, she stayed with it.
In January that 2ND year, the plan wrote and informed her that her non-generic prescriptions would no longer be covered. IOW, she would be paying $75/month for the privilege of getting 3 $5 prescriptions a month for free. The other 2 cost a total of about $300/month.
There was nothing she could do, as I'm sure you know.
Fortunately, the pharma cos. that manufactured those 2 scrips had a medical need program and we were able to get her those meds for free through that. We dropped Part D and were able to stick with those programs for 6 years (more people need to know about them - that was the easy part). But, It was a ridiculous amount of work and hoops to go through.
A bit of karma, though: she never got a bill from the Part D provider those first couple of years. I asked her a few times if she was paying for it and she'd say, "I guess it's coming out of my Social Security like my Medicare is." It wasn't. Some kind of glitch on their end. So, during year 2 she suddenly gets this big bill for all the back payments! She called and they, to give them credit, said "our bad, pay us $5/month till you pay it off." That's what she did, until she died a few years after that.
They never got close to the premium costs.

(17,148 posts)Sorry, Spanky. My ass requires a lot more zeroes between the "2" and the decimal point to get its attention.
But hey, thanks for the two bills. It'll get me a couple cartons of cigarettes and several bottles of medicinal spirits which I will use to get nicely lubricated while watching you and yours go down in flames.

(10,885 posts)It will serve it's intended purpose - to lessen some medical pain. If that $200 helps Joe to win, a bunch of us will be saving big bucks on future headache meds...our biggest headache will be gone.
