Louisiana cop charged for falsely claiming he was ambushed after he accidentally shot himself

A Louisiana police officer who claimed he was wounded in an ambush actually shot himself with his own service weapon, according to authorities.

John Goulart Jr. was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of criminal mischief and one count of malfeasance in office, Deputy Chief Darrell Basco of the Pineville Police Department Administrative Bureau told CNN.

The incident unfolded while the 25-year-old officer was on duty Sunday night. Goulart reported he had been shot a single time around 11:50 p.m. and was then transported to the hospital for treatment. He has since been released.

Basco said two rounds were fired off from Goulart’s gun, one of them striking his leg while the other hit his cruiser door.

“The investigation led to a determination that the officer shot himself, concealed and altered the facts,” he told CNN..

He’s a cop, so doesn’t qualified immunity mean he can’t be guilty? But he shot a cop so he must go to jail.

Quantum law enforcement is so complicated.

I would love to see that defense used.

What I would also like to see is his complaint. Did he describe a shooter?
