Joe Biden reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for LGBTQ rights during an online event organized by the Human Rights Campaign Thursday evening.

Just five weeks before what’s shaping up to be a tumultuous presidential election, the former vice president spoke during the United for Equality Live online event, stressing the importance of voting Donald Trump out of office.

“America’s at an inflection point,” the Democratic presidential candidate said. “This election is going to determine our future for a very long time. We’re facing multiple crises — pandemic, recession, racial injustice, climate change, wildfires, an assault on LGBTQ rights, declining faith in a bright American future.”

The event held by the HRC, the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization, replaced its annual National Dinner, a traditional gathering of its members, to raise funds for critical fights for the protection of LGBTQ rights in the U.S. and abroad.
