OMG. Apparently Ron Paul had a stroke on live video. (Warning: video posted)

I’m not posting this to be prurient and I wish the man well, so PLEASE don’t revel or I’ll pull the post. And if it seems insensitive I’ll pull it. But this is fascinating, horrifying and should be seen as a PSA. According to a photo and statement he’s okay, and seems to have regained function but man...

Truly disturbing & very, very scary. You're right... that's the most informative PSA I've ever seen. Shows what a stroke can look like. Pretty jarring, IMO.

And would he be able to function physically enough to try to get help if he was alone ?

9. That's actually a good question. I suspect it depends.

It is the brain. Different areas might have different cognitive connections. Maybe someone else knows.

15. There was a weather reporter in Los Angeles who was young and had a stroke

I don't know what she does now but her name is Bri Winkler and she reported on the weather for the local abc station.

She was in her 20s and had a stroke . She talked about it some time later and mentioned how she started getting symptoms but being in her 20s probably didn't think of a stroke. She even called her sister and her sister thought of a stroke but didn't mention it because she also could not think her sister who was young and in good physical shape could being having a stroke.

I remember being interested in it more than usual just because she didn't seem like the type to have a stroke and her symptoms by themselves could have been any small thing. I had also read something recently about young women having strokes.

I just found the article I remember reading some years ago.

10. Flashback for me...yikes!

This video really got to me. This happened to me a couple years ago. Talking to son one night around midnight, and then jiberish. I'm usually in bed at the time of night, and was told by Doc if I had been sleeping, I probably never would have known I had the TIA mini-stroke. 911 was called, and I was back to normal in about 15 minutes. No numbness, etc.
I'm very active, exercise, healthy lifestyle, no medical problems, so this puzzled me. All tests came back good.
The neurologist asked me if I had fallen recently, and I remembered I had fallen down the basement stairs around 6 am that morning, but didn't get hurt, so I forgot about it. He said a fall/jolt can trigger a stroke. If you have a fall, it's good to let someone know so they can monitor you for awhile. They put me on a blood thinner and a cholesterol med to be safe.

Edit: Someone asked about mental awareness. When it happened to me, it took everything I had to get out, "Get Mom" for my son to wake up my wife and call 911. All I could tell her was, "Stroke". It was scary because I was mentally aware of everything, but couldn't talk and my left side went numb.

11. Wow! Glad you're okay! May I ask something?

You certainly don’t have to reply. We were wondering upthread if Sen. Paul knew what was going on, if he felt it and heard how his words sounded.

I’m so glad you recovered, and it’s so interesting and unnerving about the fall.

16. It might be a good idea to have some universal ways to communicate for people in your condition
Sat Sep 26, 2020, 12:06 AM

Where you are aware but just phsyically unable to get it out.

Maybe some signs or something which people learn similar to 9-11 so those around them know automatically to call for help.

Of course whatever those communication methods are would have to be something people in that condition are capable of doing .
