Will the Evangelical Christians be Donald Trumps Achilles heel??

Now hear me out.

Hubby was musing at the TV and looked over and said, "he is going to push forward with the SCOTUS nomination and that seals the deal on his losing the election."

I looked over at him like he had been filling the coffee cup with brandy..

But as he explained, it started to make a lot of sense,

The only thing the Evangelicals wanted from Trump were the judges.. He has appointed fully one third of all federal judges, (if I heard right on the TV) and now he will have appointed a third of the Supremes.. (well to be accurate, McConnel has appointed and pushed through and Trump has signed on, because he does not know what the hell he is doing)

I know this for a fact, the Evangelicals turn themselves inside out trying to explain their support of Trump.. now there is another whole set of crazy racists who support him because he is a racist, but not all Evangelicals are racists by any means.. But they are fixated on changing the court system to a Christian Sharia System.. they do not realize this is exactly what they are doing, but it is.

Now that he has given them everything they have been working for for forty years.. my guess is that they stay home. Hubby is right about that. They want to try and wash the stink of Trump off themselves.

1. Nope. They want more judges and to maintain a friend in the Department of Education.

This among many other things. Trump is probably going to lose soundly - unless his minions confiscate ballots (which is my chief worry). But his evangelical supporters will still vote for him.

The strategy for Republicans for years is to NEVER let the horse get the carrot. Once the horse gets the carrot, it no longer needs to pull the cart. If they effectively give the right the assurance that they have indeed ended the culture wars...they will no longer need to vote against their economic best interests.

Especially working class Catholics.... who know what a shit 45 is. They won't need him any more.

3. No. Evangelicals are some of the greediest people I have ever met.

What is better than 3 judges? 5 judges. Letting Thomas retire and replace him with a 20 year old theocrat so he/she can be on the bench for 50 years. Maybe another liberal judge dies in the next 4 years as well. Also maybe Trump dies in office and the guy who really gets them hot, Pence takes over.

There is also zero evidence Evangelicals (to mean White Evangelicals) dislike Trump or want to wash the stink of Trump off. They LOVE Trump. They aren't holding their noses and voting for Trump because of anti-abortion reasons they LOVE Trump. In every poll, every analysis, every focus group they repeat that consistently and loudy. Maybe we should start believing them. Evangelicals love that he is putting gays, blacks, and the poors in their place. In fact they love the GOP a lot less than they lose Trump.

Here is my 2020 prediction:
Trump will lose some Evangelical support around the edges but they will still vote in large numbers and overwhelmingly for Trump.

5. No, they still want Barr's Justice Department to challenge everything in court for them right away.

Otherwise they would have to use the old way of conducting themselves like honorable people.

I've always heard that God hates liars, yet Evangelicals have no problem with liars.

They aren't actually fighting against us. They are fighting against demons of their own imagining. And nothing is going to make those demons go away. (Except maybe, ironically, embracing the actual teachings of Christ. But we know that'll never happen.)

He satisfies their needs for Rapture fantasies.

He satisfies their needs to justify hate of others.

Above all, he satisfies their need to be led, and frees them from the terrible burden of thinking.

10. I agree for a similar but different voting faction

I think the evangelicals hang in there.

But I think he stands to lose the other faction of voters that really put him over the top before. These are people who are free-thinking enough to realize that he is an embarrassing idiot but are strategic voters. They knew in 2016 that the Supreme Court was on the line and played the long game. They now have the luxury of voting (or not voting) for him safe in the knowledge that they are set for a couple of decades.
