The shooting took place Thursday morning when deputies at first tried to conduct a traffic stop on Christopher Michael Straub, 38, near a cemetery. Straub got out of his vehicle and ran through the vineyards of the cemetery, the release said.
He then hid and ambushed deputies, firing multiple rounds at them with a handgun. Deputy Richard "Ted" Lehnhoff, 34, was hit in the leg and airlifted to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition, the release said.
Straub continued evading deputies and attempted to return to his vehicle through the vineyard, but additional deputies arrived on scene and intercepted him as he tried to regain access to his vehicle
Good fucking riddance to POS rubbish.

(16,296 posts)What got me was:
"Authorities searched Straub's residence, where they discovered he was illegally manufacturing weapons parts.
"Straub was a wanted felon and it is illegal for felons to possess any weapons," the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office said Straub was a known member of a white supremacist gang and the Sheriff's Gang Task Force was already conducting an investigation before Thursday's shooting.
Straub "had a significant criminal history having been booked 28 times into jails all across California including two incarcerations in state prison,"
And the weapons found IN HIS CAR (Boggles what other weapons he was hiding)

(63,221 posts)I know it's true, which is why it's so frightening. There are way too many of these people out there just hiding in plain sight. I am really worried about what life will be like when the pendulum starts swinging the other way.
Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)Cops shot and killed a man who was actually armed and dangerous. A real instance of where they could justifiably claim they feared for their life.
This is a case where no reasonable person could find fault with their actions.

(47,415 posts)Most militia types don't like law enforcement anyway. Pretty much everyone is an enemy to their freedom to do whatever they want.
After Joe Biden takes office, he should direct his DOJ to designate these militia groups as domestic terrorist org. and arrest and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
These monsters have gotten away with so much for so long, it is time they got put in their place, which in most cases is probably prison.

(12,369 posts)probably the majority of them are convicted felons who have no right even holding a firearm, much less own one, another violation of the law that can be used against those that are found in possession of a firearm.

(12,369 posts)but there will still be an investigation by the police and DA's shooting team.
Bottom line is that there is one less domestic terrorist in the country, which, IMO, is a grand thing.

(12,369 posts)this guy was well known to LE, he had a long record, including 2 stints in a state prison, he shot at police, the amount of firearms/ammo found in his vehicle indicates that he was up to no good, he was manufacturing firearm parts at his home, probably to sell to his white supremacist friends.
I'm not going to lose any sleep over this POS's demise.
Most DA shooting teams are pretty competent, they know what to look for.
