By now most people are familiar with quite possibly the most famous person to ever be convicted of tax evasion, Al Capone.
Capone was a Chicago mob boss during Prohibition who, despite ordering the deaths of dozens, was sentenced to just eleven years in prison on federal income tax evasion charges in 1931.
Slightly less well-known is Salvatore "Sallie" Demeo, described by the New York Post as a "Genovese soldier" and charged with tax evasion related to real estate deals. So why is it that so many mobsters or organized crime leaders are charged with tax evasion?
Mafioso Misrepresentation
It could be the nature of the business.
Since most mobsters' gains are ill-gotten, they are rarely eager to report those gains to the IRS. Such was the case in Capone's prosecution, as federal agents noticed that gangsters were living lavish lifestyles without filing income tax returns.
In 1927, the Supreme Court ruled that illegally earned income was subject to income tax, and tax evasion prosecutions of criminals soon followed.
Ironically, Capone was also convicted using evidence provided by his own attempts to comply with tax laws.
After his brother Ralph went to jail for tax evasion in 1930, Capone asked his lawyer to make sure his tax obligations were paid.
During negotiations with federal authorities, Capone's attorney conceded the mobster had sizeable income for 1928 and 1929 on which he had paid zero in taxes.
Those admissions, along with extensive evidence regarding Capone's spending habits, were central to proving his untaxed income.

(15,325 posts)2. Could the failure to report ill gotten gains be the reason Brad Parscale is having issues ?
Here's hoping he gets help, but the US taxpayers are owed some property seizures out of that whole Trump org that's been running amok in our White House.
Jared & Ivanka Kushner, Eric Ttump jr, DJTrump jr, Stephan Miller & all the mobbed up squatters in our White House, the co-mobsters in our Senate & House of Reps and all the rest, owe a big $$$ payback to the US Treasury.
May justice is swift & harsh ~

(15,325 posts)3. Here's more. Capone was brought down for tax evasion...
Al Capone, head of organized crime in Chicago in the 1920s and involved in everything from illegal gambling to murder, was ultimately brought down by a 1931 conviction for income-tax evasion.
Capone emerged from prison in 1939, too sick to return to his criminal life. He died in 1947 at age 48.

The one thing Trump has avoided at all cost, revealing his taxes, will be the thing that brings down the Trump crime family as well.
In the end, Robert Mueller, who led the prosecution of the Gambino family for (yup) Tax Evasion, will be recognized as knowing & playing a big hand in the demise of DJ Trump & his crime family as well.
I believe Mueller always knew what investigations were needed to get a conviction, when he began looking into Trump's past.
Mueller always knew it would be Tax Evasion that would someday convict Trump.
And that's what he centered his investigation on.
Because THAT is Robert Mueller's area of success when dealing with mob crime.
