I think the tax story also increases the odds of Dems taking the Senate.

I think some small percentage of disillusioned Trump supporters will now be likely stay home and sit this election out, thus depriving down-ticket Republicans of their votes as well. In closely-contested Senate races in key states, that might make all the difference.

As long as we Get! Out! The! Vote!

I don’t think this story will change many votes since we already knew this

1) It's not news to Trump's base that he doesn't pay taxes. What might be slowly dawning on them, though, is that he's not rich, but poor, not strong, but weak. That, I think, is what will disillusion some of them.

2) I'm not talking about changing votes here. Only saying that some disillusioned Trump voters may just stay home.

People may have assumed, but didn’t know.

That’s a pretty big difference.

And I KNEW he probably skirted taxes as much as he could. But.... 750 DOLLARS?

That's like leaving a ten cent tip to a waitress.

The paltry amount is like a slap in the face.

The reality is that having a confirmed amount like that is going to irritate all the working class people who pay way more than that....

The country club republicans won't care.

But the MAGAs who work construction, factory jobs, drive trucks, retail, etc????? You think when they realized they paid three times as much as that billionaire, they won't feel resentful? LOL

...who used tax shelters expertly to shield his vast wealth -- when it turns out, he paid little in taxes because he had no vast wealth, and was losing money hand over fist. In other words, he was one of those "lucky duckies" (to use the infamous WSJ phrase) who were too broke to owe tax.

It may be the narrative from here on out.

I paid more taxes than trump.
My wife paid more taxes than trump.
My kid, who works at McDonald's, paid more taxes than trump.

This is hardly news, the only hope is that it like the many other recent stories peals away some voters and the totality of all the revelations makes a difference.

They should never be assumed to have critical thinking skills. He has already said this story is "fake news." That will be good enough for them. After all this is from the New York Times. They won't actually read the story. They live in a media bubble. They buy his victim act that everyone is out to get him. They admire him for not paying taxes. Maybe there are some voters who voted for him that are more moderate and persuadable by the Lincoln Project types. But his so called base, this won't move them at all.
