Should Biden and Cuomo cut a deal with Trump?

Let him resign and get a pardon. Same with his kids and Barr. Have Cuomo agree to not press State charges. Conditions include withdrawing his nominee and some sort of deal where he and his ilk slink off never to be heard again.

Equal justice before the law is not just a homily said to be true in the abstract, only. No equal justice equals no justice. For way to long, there has been a click above the law in this country namely the uber wealthy and corporate vampires This must stop.
Trump is what you get when a class of people know that they are above the law.!

It would be another show of reasons to distrust our government , and how the rule of law is different for some people , and giving them breaks others don't get. That would also tell others they can get away with their crimes, and promote it to happen more in the future. Any deal will spell a disaster for any politicians and their party involved. Justice for all is suppose to mean all, not some.

Ethically speaking, and in most other ways as well, the Democrats are looking damn good compared to the GOP. Making a deal with someone as corrupt as Trump would make Democrats look just as dirty and would do nothing but create more cynicism, something we can't afford, especially at this time. Democrats need to take this opportunity to push for mandatory release of tax returns by candidates for federal office and also push for an amendment to overturn Citizens United. It's time for us to stand for clean government and try to earn public trust in government.

There's a cost to everything. Not giving Trump a chance to cut a deal is what he deserves and what I personally want. I want his ass nailed to wall. But I'm afraid of the damage he would do and that would be done on his behalf if a deal is not struck.

We trade our vengeance for a Supreme Court seat. I guess it stems from my firm belief that Democrats will NEVER stack the court. Feinstein already said “No”. In fact, I’ll bet we don’t kill the filibuster.

If you believe we will, then yes, doing this would be pointless

Trump and his enablers need to be held accountable for the deliberate damage they've done to our institutions and the lives lost to sheer incompetence and indifference.

If ever there was a time when an example needed to be set, this is it. Otherwise the GOP will be emboldened to try it again.

face consequences for what he has done...he has kill thousands of Americans, stolen out money and betrayed our state secrets. Let the AG and the states go wherever the investigation leads. Normally, we do not go after a president who leaves office but no other president has done what Trump has done.

Two things-first I do not approve of this set of actions. Personally I think that trump should go to prison. The federal pardon power is currently unchecked and trump can pardon his family and others for federal charges and I think that Pence could pardon trump if trump resigns. I see that there are proposals to limit the presidential pardon power and I support these proposals (a constitutional amendment may be necessary). If there are not limits to the Presidientail pardon powers, then trump only needs to worry about state charges

Second, Cuomo may not be involved. Cyrus Vance is the district attorney who appears to have jurisdiction (AG James seems to only have civil jurisdiction here but I am not a member of the NY bar). As the state official with the appropriate jurisdiction, Vance appeart to have the power to cut a plea deal. A peaceful transfer of power is a good thing and it may not be unreasonable to cut a deal to assure a peaceful transfer of power. If there is a plea deal and trump agrees to such a deal, then res judicata will apply and double jeopardy will attach as to NY state charges. Again, I am not a member of the NY bar and it may be that AG James needs to be involved in such a plea deal. Right now, I do not believe that Cuomo needs to be involved in that the governor normally is not involved in plea deals cut by prosecutors.

NY has some interesting rules on double jeopardy but I do not see these rules applying if there is a presdiental pardon for fereal charges and a valid plea deal entered into with the NY state offical who has the authority to make such deal

I understand the urge to see justice, but these ARE politicians, and a better deal might be to get him out, Pence pardons, Barrett withdrawn, etc

Even on COVID, it’s easy now to make the argument that Trump won’t shut the economy down because it makes his golf courses and hotels lose even more money.

The pragmatic part of me thinks more good is to be negotiated even though sending him to prison would be glorious
