That is from a fresh Thrump tweet. Has this alleged practice been thoroughly investigated? I don't think he'd give up a $1 bill.Why should anyone else believe this?

(10,039 posts)These are talking points he's disseminating to his flock. They will take it at face value, run with it and it will shade media coverage. The end result? The needle will not move. It's already is shading coverage. I wouldn't give two shits about an Orange tweet unless I heard it being broadcast.

(7,521 posts)It was $100,000 a year following Truman's first election in 1948 (he was paid $75,000 per year while finishing FDR's 4th term), increased to $200,000 a year starting with Nixon's first term, and then again to $400,000 with George W Bush's first term.

(115,681 posts)As the old saying goes, he'd steal the dimes off a dead man's eyes, so I don't believe for a minute that he gave up his salary. But even if he did, he's more than made up for it in his grifts off the government.

(820 posts)When President Kennedy took office in 1961, he was a very wealthy man. His familys worth was around $1 billion at the time, and he himself had a multimillion-dollar trust fund. He certainly didnt need the presidential salary ($100,000 annually with a $50,000 expense account, at the time) to get by. So, he donated it all to charity instead.

Never mind the bucketloads of graft he gets from various lobbyists and foreign governments booking up Trump hotels and properties to garner favor with the world's most infamous deadbeat.

@realDonaldTrump
The Fake News Media, just like Election time 2016, is bringing up my Taxes & all sorts of other nonsense with illegally obtained information & only bad intent. I paid many millions of dollars in taxes but was entitled, like everyone else, to depreciation & tax credits.....

Replying to @realDonaldTrump
.....Also, if you look at the extraordinary assets owned by me, which the Fake News hasnt, I am extremely under leveraged - I have very little debt compared to the value of assets. Much of this information is already on file, but I have long said that I may release....
Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
.....Financial Statements, from the time I announced I was going to run for President, showing all properties, assets and debts. It is a very IMPRESSIVE Statement, and also shows that I am the only President on record to give up my yearly $400,000 plus Presidential Salary!

(95,247 posts)What he is saying is that having a tax liability, which you then offset by fraudulent declarations, counts as paying that tax liability.
If you owe someone twenty dollars, and insist they give you nineteen dollars and give them back one, you have not paid the debt. You have just chiseled and weaseled.

(65,009 posts)...in 2016 that they had assets of $10.2 billion and LTD of $5.4 billion.
A D/E ratio of 1.125 is not "extremely underleveraged."
And 2 years ago, Moody's reassessed creditworthiness, and concluded the assets were overvalued by 20%, and the debt was at least $1.2 billion higher than claimed.
This puts us at $8 billion in assets and $6.6 billion in leverage.
This is a D/E of 4.7.
That is hitting the highly over leveraged range.
Once again, he's lying.

(15,411 posts)Obama gave the $1.4M Nobel prize money to charity so if Trump gave his salary it would be a bit more than the nobel prize alone. And Obama gave hundreds of thousands more each year. So, no, Obama didn't donate his salary but he did donate about the same amount.
