I love it, such a thing of simple beauty, open girders giving a direct view of the river through the roadbed over hundred feet below. The steep grade of the actual bridge deck and sudden changes gives a roller coaster like thrill to your passing.
It is the northernmost Mississippi River bridge in Iowa. Named for Chief Black Hawk, it is popularly referred to as the "Lansing bridge." This riveted cantilever through truss bridge has one of the more unusual designs of any Mississippi River bridge. Construction started in 1929 and was completed in 1931. Yes you read that correctly a bridge which handles over 1000 cars daily on peak days is almost 100 years old. Though there have been efforts to replace the bridge for nearly 20 years, the main obstacle would be need. It is claimed the Lansing bridge isn't busy enough to force replacement, and the funds to get new bridge are not there.

Like inner city schools, voting machines, climate change mitigation, National park maintenance and updating (a disgrace!!!) and many more infrastructure needs are being passed on so another billionaire, or corporation's tax relief, can be in the running to be the first Trillionaire. Is that what the world needs?

If Ike were alive today, there's no way in hell he would support Chump.
