(70,294 posts)In what could be the NFL's first significant in-season test of its coronavirus protocols, the Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday they would not be holding in-person activities after the team had eight total positive COVID-19 tests three from players, five from staff in the aftermath of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
"Out of the abundance of caution, the organization has decided to work remotely today as we follow NFL protocols related to the COVID-19 virus," the team said in a statement. "Several tests have come back positive and [we] are working through the process of confirming them. We will have more information tomorrow."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement the positive tests came back Tuesday morning. The Vikings also are suspending team activities as both clubs follow the league's protocols on COVID-19.

(20,685 posts)Teams are carrying a certain number of extra veteran players in reserve (I think it's six). Unless the spread of covid is widespread, most likely teams will be able to cover for positive players by putting them on Covid reserve and moving up practice squad players. Since you can poach off other teams practice squad, there's a large pool of reserve players practicing and getting in shape for just this type of event.
Not sure if this weeks games are in jeopardy, though. We'll probably learn more about how the NFL plans to handle it. Though, we know they planned on positive tests. I mean, it's impossible for there not to be positive tests this season.

(58,440 posts)still, it depends on which players and coaches are infected and how many.
This hasn't played fully out yet. We'll have to see what transpires. Teams could sacrifice their bye week to do a make-up game, I guess, but those don't necessarily line up right team to team.

(17,325 posts)The NHL has already said as much going into next year. Too much isolation and time away from families, not to mention the cost.
After a rocky start MLB seems to have pulled it off pretty good, and after this week theyll go into bubbles for the rest of the postseason.
