State legislatures are more important than ever. (A pitch for the NDRC.)

The NDRC (National Democratic Redistricting Pac) - initials from Committee originally is a group formed soon after the 2016 election to fight gerrymandering. They fight it in the courts but also by focusing on critical state legislatures. To be honest I was disappointed in their initial marketing efforts. Their names changed. It was hard to figure out exactly what they were up to, etc. Nevertheless I donated.

Lately, though, I've been getting more contacts. They've got my attention again, so I'm spreading the news at DU. If you have anything left over from the senate races and Biden/Harris, consider supporting the NDRC's focus on critical state legislatures.

National Democratic Redistricting PAC
Tonight is the first presidential debate, and we can probably count on more misinformation from President Trump about mail-in voting, the census, and who knows what else.

But we already know who Trump is, and why it’s so crucial to make him a one-term president. We can’t let him distract us from what else is at stake in this election: stopping Republicans from another decade of using majority power to enforce their minority views.

Whichever party wins state legislatures this fall will draw electoral maps for the next ten years. The GOP is pouring resources into critical battleground states, and Democratic fundraising is trailing behind. Can you pitch in today to help us close the gap?

If Republicans win control of congressional and state legislative maps, they’ll keep blocking progress on issues like health care, climate change, and racial justice. This election is our last chance to win the fight for fair maps in 2021.

Here at the NDRC, we’ve already made historic investments to flip state legislatures in some of America’s biggest and most gerrymandered states, like Texas. But the GOP is also going after these states, and they have a cash advantage. We need to raise $85,000 this month to catch up. Will you rush a contribution today to help us catch up with the Republicans’ dark money operation?

I have been contributing to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee to help out our state legislature candidates. Both of these sound like worthwhile orgs to support in fighting GOPher gerrymandering.

This is critical.

If not this group, then adopt a state you want to help flip and donate. Or find some local candidates and donate and volunteer.

After the 2010 election, the GOP had 101 seats in the Texas state house and the Democrats had 49 seats. After the 2018 elections, the Democrats need 9 seats to flip control of the the Texas house. There are 9 seats where Beto beat Carnival Cruz in 2018 and the DLCC and the state party are targeting 20+ seats this cycle. It will be an interesting race and trump appers to be hurting down ballot candidates.

In addition the DCCC red to blue protram has 7 or 8 seats being targeted. It will be a fun race.
