Why would a debate be more important than what will be 300,000 deaths

This is the most important election of our lifetimes and the first debate, one of Trump's few chances to make a dent in Biden's huge lead.

It is, in fact, rather important. Not as important as Covid deaths, but it's only natural for people to want to talk about it.
