Below is a common tire valve tool, available for less than $2 at any auto part store. It fits neatly in a pocket, purse, or belt pouch. It can remove tire valve cores in just seconds. If a valve core is removed, all the air escapes from the tire, which goes flat in less than 30 seconds.
It is commonly used to temporarily disable cars, big-ass pickup trucks, and massive SUVs. Nasty petty vandals and disrupters remove and pocket the valve cores from two tires on the vehicle, often one front tire and one rear tire on the opposite side. No damage is done to the tires. Since most people do not own such a tool and have no spare valve cores handy, the vehicle is disabled for a considerable time. Since two tires are affected, the problem cannot be solved by installing the spare tire that is available on most vehicles.
Those nasty petty disrupters often do this in the wee, post-midnight hours when they will not be observed. Such disruptions are very, very annoying to the owner of the vehicle, who must obtain new valve stem cores and use an air compressor to reinflate the tires.

Fortunately, if need be I can just walk to my polling place. It's only about a mile, or so, away.

(146,281 posts)some valve stem cores, and a small air compressor on hand, just in case someone does this to your vehicle. The tool and a few valve stem cores can be obtained for less than a coffee drink at Starbucks. The compressor costs somewhat more, but may be useful at other times, as well.
"Be prepared." That's the Boy Scout motto.

(86,501 posts)Someone was doing that to my vehicle a few months ago. I keep the tool in my foxglove, we have a compressor in the shop out back since we're out in the boonies and there are several vehicles with tires around the place.

(146,281 posts)It damages the tire, perhaps of a rental car, as happened in Minneapolis. The nasty petty disrupter's tool still disables the car, but cause no damage. It only inconveniences the vehicle's driver for some time.
Besides, since it has no sharp point that can possible insure a careless disrupter, a tire valve tool is a much better choice. It's also much easier to carry, since it fits neatly into any pocket.
Smart disrupters always consider safety and cost.
