So being old (69) my husband and I have our absentee ballots but more and more I think

I think that some of them have a political concept that their ranks can ally with right-wing elements in law enforcement and military (not necessarily officers) to joint enforce a new order devoid of certain "democratic norms." I think that there's an idea that Trump has never actually assumed power because of the influence of various institutional forces, and that when the moment is right, they will help him truly seize power.
