I've seen projections for the Senate coming out anywhere between 50-50 up to Democrats controlling by 54-46 (including the 2 independents who caucus with the Dems). The most common forecast is Dems controlling with 52 members. But is that enough for them to accomplish their goals?
If the Dems do take control of the Senate, they can do a lot if they first abolish the filibuster. That might be difficult unless they get a large enough majority to compensate for some of the more conservative Dems who might not want to eliminate it.
Assuming they eliminate the filibuster, I would like to see them reform and expand the federal courts and the Supreme Court and grant statehood to D. C. and Puerto Rico. This would hopefully help restore a balance of power in this country so we aren't subjected to the tyranny of the minority. It's time for the government to represent the majority of its citizens.

(10,038 posts)they need to pass the corona virus aide package and then when they decide what to do about the courts start on it while at the same time start dealing, in priority order, the over 400 bills that Moscow Mitch has been sitting on, one by one. HR 1 being a first.

Because fuck you, mitch, THATS WHY.
we dont get to pussyfoot around this time. It has to be hardball, and it has to be out of the gate....
The minority GOP has to be shown that if they want to deal, it will be on OUR TERMS FIRST, and anything they do get will be our GIFT to them. Or there will BE no deal.

(10,038 posts)republicans, these assholes have not worked with dems for a very long time and have enabled the worst possible president to tear the country apart. Forget them, they are no longer relevant to the country.

(25,812 posts)Right now even Kansas, yes, Kansas! may be in contention. They last elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1932.
I used to live in Kansas. I left in 2008, before it got so incredibly right-wing as it is now, for which I'm very grateful. But for them to elect Barbara Bollier would be truly fantastic. I did send her some money recently.

(10,266 posts)If they show up like they were ordered to by We The People, and act accordingly and fucking play hardball, they can get a lot done for a lot of people.
If they decide that NOT stomping the minority into the carpet at the first WHISPER of 'soshulist teerany' will somehow be rewarded, they wont get a damn thing done and they'll lose their Senate majority the next cycle.
