The thing about Texas Republicans trying to throw out 100K+ ballots is that they've already created racist voter ID laws, closed 750 polling places since 2012, and gerrymandered the bejesus out of districts, but they still need more voter suppression to keep TX from turning blue.

(10,170 posts)Wouldnt listen to evidence, etc. and look how emboldened trump became afterwards. He really learned his lesson. To try to steal the election will take a great deal of abhorrent action. The guy is already practically foaming at the mouth crazy. If they managed to keep him in office how do you think he would act afterwards? How can the rethugs look themselves in the mirror after that? I know, stupid question. They are souless anti Americans.

(6,228 posts)which is why we passed for a commission to draw up the new districts in 2018 after the census here in Michigan. The Commission has been picked and I sure hope it helps.

(210 posts)Yes, thankfully, the citizens of Michigan did themselves proud. The situation seems hopeful, but Republicans here, like everywhere else, are opposed to democracy and have already challenged the Commission in court. The challenge failed, but they'll keep on trying. They may yet find a way to lob a case to the US Supreme Court, which may find a way to strike the Commission down. For example, drawing on their skills in casuistry, sophistry, and lying, the Republican justices may decide that the Constitution requires that only the state legislature can establish district boundaries, not citizen commissions. At least at the Congressional Representative level. I'm not confident that the Commission will survive.

(145,129 posts)This filing is by a former GOP party chair who was voted out of office a while back and is not a strong filing in my opinion. I know of this attorney only because he used to be the GOP party chair before he was voted out and defeated by an attorney I used to practice law with. This is not a strong filing in my opinion. The equal protection claim basically boils down to the claim that drive through voting is not allowed under Texas election law which is the claim that the Texas supreme court just rejected. Here is the filing https://www.democracydocket.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/45/2020/10/Harris-county-new-suit.pdf Again, I am not impressed with Jared's attempt to generate a federal question
