Hundreds throng early voting center at Summit County (OH) Board of Elections

Hundreds of Summit County residents lined up Saturday in a throng that would rival a queue for Rolling Stones tickets, circa 1975.

But it was 2020, and people wrapped around the county’s sole early voting location were eager to cast ballots for their preferred issues and candidates.

They came from all parts of the county, almost all wearing masks but with little social distancing evident.

Michael and Alexis Saltis of Akron said they decided to vote Saturday to avoid long lines Tuesday; Michael Saltis said he works on Election Day and didn’t want to deal with voting after coming home.

“This is purely an issue of convenience for me,” he said.

In prior elections, he said, he’s voted on Election Day, but due to high interest in this year's race, he feared the crowds would be overwhelming.

“Election Day is a stress of uncertainty,” Alexis Saltis said.

Makinzie Kyle, an 18-year-old Akron resident and fashion and design student, was voting in her first presidential election. She said she wants to see change come from the next administration.
