Once Trump leaves office, his criminal exposure if he were to sell secrets would broaden. The plain statement canon almost certainly does not apply to former presidents for nonofficial acts.

(14,605 posts)He is selling our most sensitive tech - like the f35 - to countries we can't trust - like the uae - to not let other countries inspect. Planes, drones, surveilance, communications, inteligence information - all on the block.
Maybe that can be stopped. Maybe not. But the sales have been announced.
