November 2, 2020
By Brad Reed
President Donald Trump tried to use Democratic rival Joe Bidens own former chief of staff against him and it completely blew up in his face.
In a tweet posted on Monday afternoon, Trump once again attacked Bidens handling of the H1N1 virus, which killed 12,000 Americans in 2009, as a defense of his own handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic, which so far has killed more than 230,000 Americans in less than one year.
Biden was a pathetic laughing stock all over Washington for the horrible way he handled the H1N1 Swine Flu, the president wrote. Even his own Chief of Staff said he didnt know what he was doing!
Ronald Klain, the man who served as Bidens chief of staff during the spread of H1N1 throughout the United States, immediately chimed in on Twitter to correct Trumps false claims.

(17,527 posts)I had a right-winger tell me yesterday that H1N1 killed far more Americans, on Biden's watch, than Covid-19.
Brilliant!

(30,613 posts)It was a non-issue for most of us because it was handled correctly.

Two died a Liberian visiting the United States and a doctor who had treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone. Two American nurses contracted the disease while treating the Liberian patient, but both recovered. In other words, only two people have ever been infected with Ebola while on American soil and neither died.
There were no US citizens that died of it!

(11,563 posts)Throughout the diatribe, he repeatedly, and to the best of my recollection, invariably referred to "Piece Of Shit Trump."
This is an object lesson in why. I guess there is a small measure of forgiveness for this awful tweet, but not for the handling of the pandemic. After all, he is a very impulsive man, and really not very bright.

(33,286 posts)I basically don't remember the H1N1, so Biden couldn't have been much of a laughing stock, in DC or in Washington State.
