Rep. Alma Adams (D-NC) was forced to quickly leave a polling precinct in Charlotte on Tuesday after a man showed up with a gun.
An image of the man and details of the incident were shared on Twitter by Charlotte Agenda, which offers itself as a visitors guide to the city.
As several prominent local female politicians spoke at precinct 212, one of the largest Democratic polling places in the state, the event was cut short when a maskless white man open carrying a gun showed up and began circling the property, the tweet explained. Congresswoman Adams was quickly whisked away, and Mayor Lyles left soon after. Poll watchers said the man was here for nearly an hour before heading in to vote.

North Carolina is an open carry state, so he technically was not breaking the law. Still, voters and volunteers here are describing this as voter intimidation, Charlotte Agenda noted in a subsequent tweet.

(50,261 posts)That would freak me out, though, having him turn up at the polls and hang around.

Bunch of cowards, the lot of them.

(21,560 posts)But circling the property is meant to intimidate and he should have been arrested. Open carry doesnt mean you are allowed to hang around trying to scare off people. Cast your vote and leave.

(19,038 posts)I see these idiots and I think they're there to kill people, there's always a part of me that thinks grab a hammer, tire iron, or crowbar out of my trunk and see if I could sneak up behind and swing as hard as I can at the back of his head to disable him so I can disarm him and save lives.

(95,244 posts)A man carrying a gun in public is best presumed mentally unbalanced, whatever the local laws on the matter might be, because anyone who feels the need to carry a lethal implement about his normal business is not tracking well with reality. I do not and will not trust such a person, and how to deal with him, should it prove necessary, will always cross my mind....

(51 posts)It would be great if his name ended up on the internet.
Left stores when I see idiots with a gun in the store. There are plenty here, I'll just go to a different one. I then send an email to the store explaining that I was there and left because they allow this and I won't patronize their establishment while they allow that.
Can someone pack a firearm into a polling place in NC even with open carry?
