If Trump wins I will be leaving DU.

And cancelling my newpapers and deleting all links to new sites
I just can't take the stress of Trump horrors every day and I believe that he will remain as president for life after his next term so there will be no end to them.

I will try to focus on hobbies, what's around my local neighborhood and try to remain ignorant of everything else. It's just too painful to watch the total willful destruction of our nation.

Take care. I think we will pull this out, but maybe politics is just too much. Although, I suspect I will continue voting for Democrats.

But yea, if Trump pulls this off, I’m going to self impose a complete news blackout. I’m going to start acting like an Ostrich with his head in the sand. I can’t take anymore of this open corruption and criminality

If it is causing mental stress and social division, there is something really wrong.

Politicians are supposed to be civil servants, boring, talking a lot, but having the interests of their constituents at heart, and basically, trustworthy. Competent. But boring as anything.

This is not politics. It's Jonestown, the WACO complex of branch Davidian combined. A destructive cult on one side of the political divide.

America, do me a favor?

Never, ever look at a TV star, a real or pretend one, and give them a job they are totally unqualified to handle.

OK?

I may be doing the same things. If he wins, it’s hopeless. The virus is going to ravage the population and no one will do anything. Might as well try to enjoy what time there is left.

While I might not pull as completely away as you, I will pay a lot less attention to news and politics if Biden loses. If Americans are that hell bent on destroying themselves, I'm not going to get in the way of their fun. Besides, it's hard for me to really care about people I don't respect.

And I still don’t feel right. Seriously one of the scariest moments of my life. I’m an anxious person at the best of times, but I just had to crawl to the bathroom and was in and out of consciousness in there for a couple of hours. I think I’m okay but I still feel sick and am worried.

your own sanity, then return at a lower, slightly less invested level.

BTW, those who followed Bush vs. Kerry in 2004 should not be so surprised by how tonight has gone thus far. Bush led us into war based upon lies and still won. The horrible fact of the matter is that any candidate who waves the flag and carries a Bible has an edge with much of America -- regardless of how the right wing candidate actually behaves in real life.

But I do not think he will stay for life. There are too many ambitious young Republicans who want the big chair. If he balks at stepping down and backing a successor that isn't a family member, there will be trouble for him.

Anyone who stands up will be shot down just like they are now. Trump owns them.
He also has Barr who will start imprisoning anyone who opposes him.
We will become a true fascist banana republic dictatorship.

And concentrate on your own part of the world?

Great idea!

But desperation is not yet called for, counting is all over the place and anything can happen.

Australian news is currently calling 227 for Biden, 213 for Trump, with 270 to win outright.

IF Trump's GOP party wins, just hope we can survive the next 4 years, or the grim reaper and his legion of helpers, the COVID viruses, take him sooner to that dark, deep, hot place well before that.

If nothing else DU is a good place - either to console each other, or to celebrate.

Now, excuse me, Trump is about to speak, I need to go turn the TV off.

It's a fantastic book, true story, and it relates to the sentiments of how the OP and many of us are feeling at this time about getting away from it all. The main character in that book got away from it all, and then some.

Anyway, after this election, win or lose, I'm going to re-read that book because it's such a good escape in itself. I'm also going to continue hiking as long as my legs hold up because it's one of the best escapes ever. When I'm in the woods, especially on the side of a mountain, there is no Trump, no news, nothing but wilderness, wildlife, nice subtle sounds, beautiful views, peace, and it's great exercise to boot. I highly recommend it.
