I cannot believe the results and I cannot believe that fascist declaration of victory early this morning. He and his cheering enablers want to stop counting legitimate votes. He marched out to Hail to the Cheat and declared himself the victor. This is the middle of the quarter million deaths from Covid, the job losses and dislocation of life as we know it, the non-stop lies, the corruption, the vulgarity, and on and on and on.
I now understand the fear of so many DUers .

(259 posts)...the machines have been hacked. There is no other explanation as to why the preliminary polls, and exit polls, are suddenly so far off since the year 2000 when they were nearly perfect accurate predictors in this country, and every other country on the planet for decades before that. It defies math and science.
Ligyron
(7,592 posts)IDK if it's hacking but they did and perhaps even do manage to win just enough votes to capture the EC and the Presidency. while being beaten significantly in popular votes.
Plus polling methodology and tech should be getting better yet we get results like 2020 even in the down ballot races.
Mail in votes are still being counted but even if we win it's a lot closer than almost any respected polling predicted.
MyMission
(1,845 posts)Since the underlying driving force behind the hacking is the racism. Can't let non-whites have a voice! My first thought when seeing initial reports was they're manipulating the vote counts.
I absolutely agree with you.
And yet, in my red county and congressional district in NC, they elected a young, local, stupid, racist, sycophant, and by a large majority, to fill Meadows seat, rather than a retired military man. I trust that vote, and know the southern racists turned out to make sure a "liberal" didn't win.
I am disheartened and disgusted by that result, given we were ungerrymandered.
The phrase cheaters never prosper floats through my mind often, almost like a mantra, hoping it will be true.

(8,200 posts)Racism is Trump's and the Republicans' winning issue. The Republican Party has been running a with fascism agenda since Nixon scape goating the Blacks and with this election increased concentration on the Hispanics. It is a sure fire winning strategy especially when those who are targeted fail to even show up to vote. The rioting and looting sure as hell didn't help and of course was exaggerated by the Republicans to emphasized and was fodder for their racist propaganda. Black leaders tried to warn people that every brick throw through a window is another vote for the Republicans. The poles are another issue. Terribly misleading and just as bad as during the last campaign. I am praying the Biden ekes out a victory, but it is far to close for comfort.

(21,146 posts)Blacks, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Latin Americans, people from the Middle East experience racism and bigotry daily in countless ways. Whites who claim it doesn't exist or that it is minimal or that they don't see it are deliberately lying or are so accustomed to the bias in society and in their own bubble that they don't even recognize it for what it is.
There isn't a single White person in this country who doesn't see or hear it. Whites with "subtle" bias, or open racism assume that other Whites agree with them when they speak among themselves. It is not enough to not be racist. You have to be anti racist with them, refusing to be silent for the sake of keeping peace.
Trump says what they think but feel they can't say. He speaks for them. Jimmy Carter said it best several years ago in regard to Ronald Reagan. When Carter was asked if he thought that Reagan was racist, Carter said that Reagan makes White Americans feel comfortable with their own biases and prejudices. Trump does that on steroids, making people feel able to be open to express and act on their prejudices.
That is the root of Trump's support.

(2,686 posts)his options will be narrow. I just saw where Montana went for Daines instead of Bullock. I see that Amy McGrath was pummeled in Kentucky. Jaime Harrison was flattened by Lindsey Graham. Sure, there were some victories to celebrate in the senate races, but so far the GOP still rules it -- and some of our most promising candidates have gotten crushed.
It's early, I know, but if the final decision goes to SCOTUS it'll be Game Over for the experiment that was the U.S.A.
Turin_C3PO

(21,146 posts)There are a lot of Trump supporters, but consider all that Trump and his enablers did to suppress the vote - removing mailboxes, slowing down the mail, removing sorting machines, truck caravans blocking roads, threats to voters, "poll watchers" to intimidate voters, reducing the numbers of voting sites, etc, etc.
We knew we had to have a big Dem turnout to counter these moves. So the turnout was big enough to overcome the obstacles.
The mailbox that was removed a few weeks ago in my neighborhood was reinstalled after it was too close to election day to be used for mail-in ballots.

(115,276 posts)in a civilized society. Trump supporters should be few, and regarded as fringe crackpots that most people wouldn't want to associate with. Like Nazis. Nobody wants to hang out with Nazis, do they? But here they are, lots of them.
wnylib
(21,146 posts)mainstream now instead of being fringe. Your reference to Nazis is apt. There are enough parallels in US politics today to how fascism gained power in Europe in the 1930's to be scary as well as sickening. Too many Americans do not see the parallels because they do not know the details of how fascism evolved in Germany in particular, but also in Italy, Spain, Austria.
I made a point of learning how it happened in Europe because I had one set of grandparents who came to America from Germany as young children 45 years before there was such a thing as Nazis. There were older relatives of mine who had kept in touch with their relatives in Germany over the years. I was born a few years after WWII ended. I wanted to know not just what had happened, but how it had happened. In addition, there were children at my grade school who had come with their parents to America from Italy. The parents had lived through Musolini's rule and had aided Americans during the war.
So I paid attention to how, not just what.
Americans dismiss concerns about creeping fascism because they only know the horrible atrocities and say that since we are not doing those things, there are no parallels in the US. But there are. There definitely are.
It's not conspiracy theory or alarmism on my part. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has written about it. Her family escaped fascism in Europe during the war and then communism after it. From her family's personal experience and her professional experience, she knows what she is talking about in her book, :Fascism, a Warning."

(31,483 posts)Trump saved our economy. You can show them the graphs that the stock market rose consistently during Obama's years and that the unemployment rate steadily fell, but they refuse to acknowledge the facts.
In many instances, these are "Christians" who were outraged by the Clinton/Lewinski affair, but turn a blind eye to the many allegations of sexual misconduct and rape charges against Trump. They don't bat an eyelash at the fact that Trump has cheated on all 3 of his wives or that he paid women to stay silent about his affairs. Suddenly, the morality of the nation's leader is not that important.
The fact that Trump lies every time he opens his mouth doesn't faze them. The fact that he and his family are fleecing the American people with their business dealings is completely overlooked. In their eyes, he's the greatest President ever.

Obama was able to pull off the historic wins that he did because his charisma is off the scale. I don't blame Biden or Hillary for not being as magnetic. They shouldn't have had to be. Fox News viewers don't even hear half the information about Trump's corruption and foreign entanglements and personal enrichment off the presidency that we Dems hear from our sources. And if they do happen to hear it, Fox News and Trump have them convinced that any anything they hear that is critical of Trump is just the lying main stream media cooking up another hoax.

I am processing right now what is coming in. I am about to go take a long bike ride and try to clear my head and get some fresh air and then think about things.
I am crying for the US...the situation is so far worse than people are realizing. The pandemic is raging and will get much worse. The economy will not be recovering until the pandemic has become under control. And Trump if he manages to take a second term, which by the way I do not believe is legitimately, the US will not fare well and the lessons will be hard. Loss of civil rights and protections. Lots of suffering. Loss of healthcare and all the protections for pre-existing conditions. Continuing climate change consequences and disasters.
I am not a conspiracy theorist. I don't however believe the bullshit lies coming from pundits and "concern trolls" about "the polls are wrong again" or "silent majority" voting...people who are saying that the Democratic Party needs to re-evaluate itself and made mistakes. Bullshit.
The polls were not wrong. There is always a margin of error - but not what we are seeing and the explanations they want us to believe. There was from the start of the election and voting both voter suppression and active measures and currently being taken by the GOP and Trump administration to make sure not all votes are counted. They have plans to use the courts and disenfranchise voters. And finally, while I cannot prove it directly - at least not right now - I have no doubt that there was manipulation of machines and the count in key states that have had "unexpected results". I know too much about and have been following for decades how many of the voting machines and data is calculated and how easily it can be compromised. Maybe if we have Biden declared the winner in the end and have a working Justice Dept and House and Senate that will do investigations, then it will be shown and proved. But I believe that it is not likely unless he is declared the winner and our not having the Senate and with all the Justices that the GOP has rammed through, it is going to be not just overlooked intentionally, it will be swept away.
I don't know what has happened to the United States. The cult of Trump.....the hatred and racism...the downright ignorance of the population that thinks Covid is nothing more than the flu and a hoax...the ignorance of the population that equate "socialism" as the same as "communism" and that they need to protect "America"....The dumbing down and ignorance of the populace that supports a con man lying reality tv showman.
There are no words....I only have tears and sadness inside and know that I will have to be making serious considerations of what will be next and that I will have to do to take care of myself and my family....

The Trump base is a motivated-by-money network of church, family ethnicities in low-density locales. We are locked out of that mix. We didn't lack for cash, we lacked for access. 1. He destroyed the USPS. This government institution established by our Constitution was hobbled at a whim by the appointment of a campaign donor (fellow thug/grifter). The purpose was to dismantle the heightened delivery of any mail ballots returned due to his (deliberate) mismanagement of the COVID pandemic.
2. He and Mitch McConnell destroyed the integrity of the US Judicial system all the way up to the SCOTUS. They conspired to nominate unqualified judicial clowns solely for the purpose of corrupting justice for their personal and ideological interests. Consequently, these judicial rulings overturn legislation created for the benefit of, for and by the people by our elected representatives. These fast track judicial buffoons are an easy way to workaround and nullify the will of the electorate.
3. He compromised the CDC, the FDA and the NIH among other government institutions while the COVID pandemic infection and death toll grows exponentially. Was it either deliberate or negligent manslaughter? Or was it mental disability that prevents him from performing his job?
4. The Russian collusion has had some disappointing scrutiny. The Fox News propaganda mind meld needs much, much more investigation. The "faux news bubble merged with reality TV" confusion has been our designed and constructed downfall. Follow the money. Follow the benefit. And why is anybody following or trusting that useful idiot if they have not been brainwashed to do so?
How do we get this back? My first impulse is to shun his followers for their hate and ignorance. When you are disappointed or even further repulsed by hatred, removing yourself from any further contact seems like an appropriate response. It sure solves my immediate problem. But I don't know how that solves our problem.
Do I in turn become an "Atheist Witness" that perpetually knocks on their door and window pane? Once again, my inherent repulsion to their barbarism, cruelty and spite prevents me from any further contact.
