It is hard to change the way people think.

When I was in college, I had a class in Post WWII European History. In the years following the end of the war, the German government had undertaken a massive effort to "deprogram" the population of nazism. The education system taught the truth to children about Hitler and his crimes. They outlawed nazism. They made the symbols of nazism illegal. They forced the population to acknowledge the genocide and misery they perpetrated throughout the continent of Europe.

In the decades that followed nazism continued to thrive among a small but not insignificant percentage of the population. It thrived quietly in homes and cafes and secret societies.

I am not comparing Trump supporters to Nazis, although some of them surely are. My point is that Trumpism will be with us for decades to come. It will be a force to be reckoned with long after Trump himself is gone.

As I said, it is hard to change the way people think. I have no answers on how we move forward.

They are taught from an early age to HATE all things liberal. And too stupid to relearn old lessons.

Their minds won't be changed next year or maybe the next 10 years. But we have to play the long game. Republicans did that for 30-40 years and now is their time of "reward". Just ignoring them, saying they are beyond saving, blaming them isn't going to change their mind ever. Find something we can agree with and work toward changing their minds.

How the Republican party is gone (or what they considered the Republican party) and that it is now a party of Trumpism, with or without Trump. They feel like their job is just getting started.

I agree, it is the party of Trumpism. The Republican party is dead.
