That there is a systematic polling error in Republicans' favor this year. Whatever adjustments were made based on 2016 were not sufficient. I see no reason to trust any of the polls this cycle (for President or Senator) at this point.

In fact, in my experience this is the chief difference between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans believe that the ends justify the means and so therefore have no compunction about lying or cheating. Democrats believe the ends do not justify the means and are generally honest.

The reason they became a Democrat was first and foremost that I thought most Republicans that I have met are assholes, and most Democrats I have met are pretty decent people. One group is selfish and lacking empathy. The other group will place the needs of others above their own.

The sad politics of it are that the Republicans have been successful in convincing poor and middle-class white people that somehow their policies - which basically favor the rich and screw everyone else - are in their own best interest. They’ve done this by using abortion, the Second Amendment, taxes (most people do not even make enough money to either pay taxes or have it substantially impacted by tax policies of either party), socialism (what the F does that even mean?), etc. it is easier to Gish gallop a bunch of lies and appeal to someone’s emotion than to try to unpack this jibberish in a rational manner that actually requires some thought.
