Not today, but at some point we had better consider some sickening truths.

We have too many irons in the fire to deal with this emotional and tragic fact right now, but the stark reality of the repulsive and amoral nature of those with whom we share this nation cannot be ignored much longer.

Over 66 million of the people we share checkout lanes and restaurants with voted for the lying, arrogant, mentally unbalanced, pussy-grabbing criminal that Putin managed to get elected four years ago.

Some of these same people re-elected McConnell, Graham, Cotton, Inhofe, Ernst and Collins---just a sampling of the nauseating GOP Senate majority which ranges from astounding ignorance and incompetence on one fringe to fascist ideologues on the other. These people, these "fellow citizens" who walk among us, can no longer use the "I had no idea!" excuse for supporting Trump and his enablers. EVERYONE in this country and most of the civilized world knows who---and what--these people are.

And, they just applauded and encouraged them: they voted for them.

If you are wondering why I felt compelled to type this post, maybe this will explain: in my county, just over 80% voted for Trump.

Spot on, Atticus. Waking up way too early this morn in a state of uncertainty was horrifying. Yes the "pollsters" and most media apparently let us down. Again. But more critically, what is the nature of this species surrounding us?

In contrast to you, I am surrounded by blue-thinkers here, but even so the pervasiveness of the idiocy cannot be denied.

what it will take to tear down white supremacy. Our country is built on it, and until we reckon with it, we will continue to struggle.

This problem goes beyond politics. It is pathology.

And honestly, I think it's been part of the American psyche and template since "The Age of Discovery. "

I've known it in my bones since I was a kid, somehow. Probably a lot to do with my parents' awareness.

There are so many reasons for this. The dumbing down of America so critical thinking skills are almost non-existent. The evangelical right hijacking churches so all that is left of Christian Doctrine is everyone not like them is going to hell and the sooner they go the better. The loss of the Fairness Doctrine so hate radio and Fox are free to spew their toxic fear-based hate mongering bs 24/7. Just to name a few.

The realization that half the country REALLY is rotten, bigoted, amoral, dumb and mean is a bitter truth to swallow. Hell, they love the monster!
I don't even know this country anymore; I'd leave if it were possible. Now I'm just old, poor and tired and have no options.
At least my favorite Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio managed to survive his battle! The Republicans spent millions trying to oust him but their efforts failed. They slung a ton of dirt on him but to no avail.
