For me, there are a couple things...
1) I didn't expect this election to be a blowout, but I didn't expect it to be the squeaker that it has become.
2) As a Floridian, I wanted Florida to go for Joe (I'm sure we all would have liked that). I had no idea that the GOP-voting population had grown as much as it did since 2016. I didn't expect Trump to completely outperform his 2016 turnout by such a huge number. He's gotten over 1M votes more than he did in 2016.

(8,139 posts)and I figured we would get that same circus (dumpster fire, shit show, etc) in the WH... and we got exactly that.
I thought more people would see the circus, and be turn off from him. Apparently people like the shit show. I'm astonished that FOUR MILLION MORE people actually stood in line to vote for this guy.

It crossed my mind that people may be COVID-fatigued and want things opened up, and therefore that would translate to Trump votes.

The rest of it should wait for more votes to be counted.

(8,139 posts)They crushed their turnout. Their turnout was massive. I think most of us underestimated it.
I'm sure we would have crushed them in the House and Senate races, but for their turnout numbers. I think we did our jobs improving our own turnout numbers such a large amount but I didn't expect the same on their side as well. It doesn't seem like anyone did, especially if you looked at the media. A lot of the media expected high turnout among Dems and therefore would expand the House majority and flip seats in the Senate.

(58,785 posts)endorsement of crime and smashing laws and norms, depraved indifference to life that's developed an opportunistic "cleansing" of supposed only old into a holocaust, cannibalizing the working classes to serve our new kleptocracy...oh, hell, on and on.
Those who didn't admit before that it not only could happen here but with today's increasingly authoritarian white male power Republican leaders is should have all doubts settled.
But we're going to stop it, as we did nearly 100 ago as other nations fell to their worst elements.

(14,846 posts)How do these pollsters operate? Do they usually hire people to ask questions, or are the questions automated?
Most people don't answer their phones anymore if they don't recognize the number. Are Trumpers even more that way?
Do the pollsters often hire minorities to ask the questions? If so, I'm sure that many racists would either hang up on them or they'd intentionally give deceptive answers.

(11,370 posts)About how brain washed people are throughout the country.
Live in Oregon and we had a proposition to decriminalize hard drugs and make mushrooms legal done at doctors office. It was promoted on all the ads as helping with ptsd and using marijuana money for health drug centers. With 80% of vote in it is leading by 11% and even leading in my conservative county by 2%.
That shocked me don't know why, didn't think it would pass but I read my state was first in 1973 to decriminalize marijuana.

(3,099 posts)It looks like Trump will lose which is great but there was a lot of not so great news as well.
We aren't going to take the Senate.
We are going to have a net loss of House seats.
We are actually going to end up losing a state legislature when we were predicted to win as many as five. This doesn't bode well for redistricting.
In It to Win It

(1,235 posts)those two senate seats. I thought Biden might win NC too.
I had Georgia and Arizona on my electoral map. Black people stood on line in Georgia for 10 hours, its obvious that they werent voting for Trump so thats why Biden my pull ahead there.
Not shocked about Florida. Theyve been saying for MONTHS that the Cubans and Venezuelans think Biden is a socialist

(10,811 posts)Shocked that so many Americans would vote for the most corrupt, cruel and incompetent man for POTUS, again.
Which firms up the theory IMHO that this is truly a cult of personality. Trump's name wasn't on the ticket in 2018 and we swept the country winning in places that surprised even the pundits. But this year? The Trumpers couldn't' get enough of the man and his disgraceful behavior. After 4 miserable years of non-leadership, the sexism, racism, etc., it all boils down to an astounding number of Americans just don't care about anything other than tawdry entertainment and defiant ignorance.
Covid didn't change their minds, even though Dr. Fauci was right about the current surge--100,000 new cases per day, 1200 deaths. The economy going in the tank didn't move them. The raw injustice and bigotry played to their own beliefs to the point where vigilantism has been celebrated. And those babies in cages? Blame it on the parents, those fleeing economic hardships and/or violent persecution. They also agree with all the whining, the grievance mantra that Trump proudly waves to cheers and howls and chants of "Lock him/her up."
This is what we're up against. This is why we fight. Because this depraved behavior and mindset cannot stand, not in a democratic Republic, not in any civilized, rational society.
