that the DEM prez should add to the communications tool box.

Our DEM prez is too distant from our DEM supporters and the general public. Maybe once a month, go to city and give a State-of-the-Issue speech on a topic of local interest. Meet with state, county, and city DEM politicians.

...although stripping it of Newt-slime.

Always stay visible, always sell what you're doing for your people, to your people.

Self-Promotion.

It's a schoolbook lesson: If you don't toot your own horn, nobody's going to toot it for you.

Especially not the mainstream media as it's currently configured, if you're a Democrat.

(if you're a Republican, well, we wouldn't want anyone accusing us of "liberal media bias," so we won't toot for you, but we'll promote your farts as toots.)

...just as a lot of people wonder "are Republican pols really that afraid that Trump will tweet about them?" yet forget that for the last quarter century those same pols have been in abject terror that Rush Limbaugh might single them out if they run afoul of him.

Any Republican who downplayed him or his importance was on his show within 24 hours (48 tops) trying out for the Olympic backpedaling team. "Oh, no, Rush. I said nothing of the sort. The lying liberal media took my words out of context, just like you always say, just like they always do. I think you're a swell guy, Rush! Just like the rest of us."

Plus, a certain New England curmudgeon was famous for rallies — how’d that work for him?

No one I knew went to Obama rallies for the scholarship. They enjoyed getting worked up and being excited. The party has felt flatter since he left office.

Liberals prefer to think. That's why we're ... ahem ... elites, or "coastal elites" in this anti-intellectual country.
