Donald Trump will definitely try to do a Grover Cleveland and run...Plus, campaigning is his only money maker now
You will have the same suspects from 2016 in Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich...The former two have sucked up to Trump since their bitter 2016 primary
The Moderates in Hogan, Phil Scott, and Charlie Baker will try their luck
Nickey Haley and Tim Scott will be in there
Most republican voters will not want Trump, but if the candidates don't pull a Buttigieg, Kloblacher, Warren, etc... and get out, then Trump will get the nod with a plurality

(4,167 posts)I read somewhere a couple weeks ago that Presidents who don't get a second don't qualify because you have to be in the system for a certain amount of years to qualify. And 4 years isn't enough....lol

(26,044 posts)And I disagree that "most Republican voters will not want Trump." If anything, this election's results prove that "the Republican Party is the Trump Party." And, frankly, since we didn't provide the blowout we were hoping for, there's no reason for them to change. Sure, a lot of Republican officeholders may wish Trump would just go away and let them run things, but I doubt the Republican rank-and-file even cares what they think, unless they can be helpful in advancing the Trump agenda.

(15,378 posts)Voluntarily giving up his Senate seat will give him a little bit of an outsider edge. He's generically/blandly handsome. For people not like us who know how he really operated, he has a bipartisan reputation which he built up with announcing his voting for Biden. If he's called out for that by the GOP, enough time will have passed with Trump gone and increasingly vilified (probably due to his constantly tweeting STILL) that he can make the case that he saw what Trump was doing to the republican party, and that he's someone who can bring both sides together, etc.
