I hate that we will endure months of lecturing from moralists about the need to understand racists, as if there is any argument that would persuade them that we haven't yet found. Far better to obliterate barriers to voting for oppressed people and mobilize them to vote. /1

Trump supporters are allowed to call liberals "socialists," "communists," "baby killers," etc. But, in response, liberals must understand them, empathize with them, & never refer to them as "uneducated" or "racist." Because that won't bring us together. Sorry, them's the rules.
