If Biden wins, should he appoint Susan Collins to his cabinet?

Sam Adler-Bell @SamAdlerBell

I can’t be the only person who thinks Susan Collins would make an excellent secretary of whatever she wants

If Biden wins and appoints Collins, Maine’s Dem governor would appoint her replacement. Collins might be persuaded to head up some agency, say Transportation, which would free up a Senate seat.

I am no fan of Collins but if we can persuade her to give up her seat so we can fill it with a Dem, then I think it is something we should investigate.

Governors often have done this with members of state legislatures. I don't know if she can be persuaded to do this but if so, it would be a great idea.

appoint McConnell to a cabinet post. Make sure his office is in a basement with no windows and be sure he has a nice red stapler.

She is a protege of William Cohen, who is an extremely fine man, even though he is a Republican. I cannot believe that Cohen would have voted, and I suspect that Joe and Collins are friends from the Senate.

Look, I've lambasted her a lot, but if there was a chance to get her to flip, Joe would be the one to do it.

not even if the Maine governor agreed to appoint a Republican to replace her. That might be worse in terms of trying to elect a Democrat in her place.

nominee(s), you've got your talking point - they don't want to govern or work for the American people, they just want to obstruct and serve their owners/donors.

And if they accept, the first time they refuse to enact a Biden policy to his satisfaction, you fire them.

Some of these Republicans are so old in congress..... you know the rest....

Meanwhile, I'd prefer auto-retired if over 65 when your next election would be and yeah I don't care if it's 75% of them.

He’d probably block it. Wonder if she and Murkowski could threaten to shift their party affiliation to Independent if he tried it.
