It still hasnt been called. After two days, its only 50% in. As of now, Sullivan has a huge 30 percentage point lead over his Democratic opponent (Al Gross).

(15,804 posts)One of my siblings used to work for the post office up there. Theyd have to fly into small villages on a small plane to get to the very small very local post office to do their tasks. Mail doesnt get driven around each day in these small villages- it gets dropped of when a plane is scheduled to be in that village.
Folks in my industry would visit some small citys infrastructure and would have to fly in on a small plane and sleep in a school gym (instead of a hotel, because none exist) while working on that infrastructure. Places are remote. You cant drive to a lot of these places.
Its just a big state with lots of small populations.
Way back when I lived and worked up there, I worked for a grocery store in anchorage. Wed get folks come in and buying 4-6 carts worth of groceries because they lived in quite literally the middle of nowhere. They get to vote too.

(27 posts)Alaska is doing this in two distinct parts. Part 1 is finished now. The day of vote and the early vote is completed and the leaned heavily GOP. However, there are about 150,000 mail in ballots which need to be counted and they come from all over the state. Apparently they are very blue. 60% blue is not enough but 70% and Gross wins. Gross seems very confident in the numbers. Part of Trump demonizing mail in voting is that very few people in the GOP voted that way. Even in very red counties the Dems are doing well. In blue counties around Philly for example that blue rate has been 85% to 90% .
