By the time your read this, Joe and Kamala will have won the election. But Trump and his fascists aren't going away.
Many (most?) of them love that Confederate flag. As far as I'm concerned, there's no difference between that stars and bars rag flag and the Nazi swastika. But this time around, it goes far beyond being just a "Southern" flag." Hate/bigotry/ignorance isn't limited to a geographical region.
Trump flipped over the rock and turned loose every racist, hater and miserable prick in this country. He made it okay to use the "N" word. He made it okay to hate LGBTQ people. He made it fashionable to hate Muslims, Jews, Asians, Mexicans, and Democrats who they've labeled as "socialists." He made it fashionable to be an incredibly stupid, cruel, malicious human being.
So here's the bad news. Even after Joe and Kamala win this, about half of the people in this country don't/can't grasp who and what they have voted for. They don't know that (or maybe many of them do know) they voted for fascism. They don't know where that leads. (Or do they?)
At this moment, I'm very distrustful of almost half the people in this country. And I can't help but wonder how many of them would look away from concentration camps, ovens, ... well, you get the idea.
States that would reelect McConnell/Susan Collins/Tom Cotton represent a country that is capable of anything. ANYTHING.
I fear for my country when I see how much incredible ignorance, hatred and just pure dumb exists.

(933 posts)Ive seen both symbols displayed separately and Ive seen confederate flangers become offended by Nazi. Likewise, Ive seen Nazi look at the confederate flag as weak tea. And if you point it out as weak team, it offends both.
Its a great country that can provide the freedom to be stupid, but I think we need to pull that back in a tad.

(3,730 posts)Its been replaced by the Trump flag. Appropriate since the confederacy and Trumps presidency lasted about the same amount of time.

(15,031 posts)Even after he leaves, or is dragged from the White House, he is the new Limbaugh of America's crazies. Actually, he'll probably far surpass the number of Limbaugh worshipers.
He won't give up spewing his hate into cameras, Twitter, Facebook, Fox, rallies, and every other way in which he can gather together an audience in whom he can fill with more hatred than already exists in them.
This crazy fuck ain't going away until he dies.

It was assumed that they could be held in check, but the Depression and a few other things brought them out from under the woodpile.
Current neo-Nazis seem to be using it as a symbol of withdrawal from what they see as non-governing government nowadays. Or improper governing-- constant interference with some vague "rights" they believe in.

(8,759 posts)If the Confederate flag was not now viewed as the USA's swastica before Trump, it is now and we have learned (I hope) that it should have been viewed that negatively.
