Assuming Biden is declared the winner and Trump refuses to concede, what would actually happen in the White House?
Trump would no longer be president. He would no longer be CIC of the armed forces. He would no longer have access to the nuclear codes. He wouldn't be able to act as president, and I'm not really worried that half of Congress would try to pretend otherwise.
But Trump would still have Secret Service protection. Would they be obliged to prevent his forced removal from the White House if he decides he's not leaving? Could they stop someone from literally dragging his ass out the door if he decides not to cooperate?
What agency would actually remove him? Secret Service? Federal marshalls? DC police? Military? Biden and Harris themselves? I'd be in favor of a bunch of half-starved wolverines, but that's just me.
I assume Biden could set up somewhere while Trump's filth is washed from the White House, but how long could that take?
just curious.
Edited to add - My concern is not whether there will be confusion over who the president is. If Biden wins, he'll be the president at noon on January 20. Trump's concession is a nonissue. I'm not worried that Congress or the military, or parts of either, would try to act as though Trump is still preident - I'm confident they won't. But I don't really see him slinking away. My worry is that his removal from the Oval Office would be under less than orderly conditions.

(28,075 posts)The Constitution is clear, his term ends at noon on January 20th.

(14,697 posts)The ss is only there to protect him from the public, not from federal agents (or state leo's for that matter).
They may even be the ones tasked with removing him.
And if he is found to be trespassing at 12:01, he can't pardon himself since he would no longer be potus. They could charge him with a felony and prosecute him.

(26,257 posts)Once Joe takes the oath, trump* is persona non grata and will be removed, if necessary. Probably federal marshals.
And, yea, it's doubtful the Bidens will be able to move into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for a while. It will have to be totally disinfected and swept for all KINDS of bugs. It would be nice if trump* would just move on, early.

(6,376 posts)The Constitution states that the new president's term begins at noon on January 20th. The oath is more symbolic than anything.

(62,269 posts)He has to give access to everything in the White House by law. While it's possible what soothsayer is saying happens, he still has to operate with the transition team. The main giveaway though is that he is absolutely not going to grant Biden the respect of mutual understanding and respect. This is going to tarnish the GOP brand for quite some time. Biden is going to be able to use this to his advantage unifying the country.

(12,344 posts)At 12:00 pm on Inauguration, the entire Federal Government starts talking orders from Biden. So the Secret Service would have to escort the intruder out of the White House, same as any other unauthorized person.
More likely though, they would avoid a scene and convince him to go voluntarily. He's really not completely delusional, he just likes to act that way because it scares people.

(6,231 posts)that the agents assigned to him would be covering the "former president" and the ones on Biden would be covering the "president." So the ones on donnie's detail may be required to get him outta there.

(3,131 posts)He already wasnt doing the job he was elected to do. Hell lose some more court cases and then next time he crashes from the speed high hell move out. The only thing that would keep him around is some new grift scheme with McConnell.
MAGATs will also lose interest in a month or so.
Just guesses.

It will never come to that even Trump isn't that stupid but yes I would fully expect the secret service and/or mall police to literally drag Trump from the WH crying and screaming like they would any other crazy man who illegally refuses to leave.
Stop giving Trump God Emperor like power. None of this process requires Trump to concede or his active assistance. He doesn't choose to give up the Presidency his term ends at exactly noon on Jan 20th. Period. Then he is private citizen Trump illegally trespassing in the white house one of the most secure buildings in the world.
