I'm sure it's been said, but we wouldn't have this nonsense with a popular vote (Original Post) Auggie Nov 2020 OP

The rich oligarchs have destroyed this country and poisoned so many people that we are stuck in this situation.

...I can't help but get the feeling that, after 200+ years, forces have discovered the flaws in our original Constitution and figured out how to exploit them to make this nation unsustainable. I know it's a knee-jerk reaction of progressives to recoil in horror at the thought of drastically revising the Constitution, but I really see only three eventual alternatives: remaking our nation in more of a confederationalist form, splitting up altogether into a number of different nations, or accepting a situation that will result in "tyranny of the minority" rule as often as not.

...we would have had President Al Gore and President Hillary Clinton...and might not have had 9/11, the Iraq War and its aftermath, the 2008 recession, or 230,000+ dead from COVID-19. Granted, maybe all such disasters couldn't have been prevented, but they would certainly have been handled better, with far less of a human price.
