Now, close to 70 M voting for trump is hard to stomach. But, thats a different matter.

(10,299 posts)Boris Johnson had to run against Count Binface, Lord Buckethead and an Interplanetary Time Lord. Granted, these "candidates" provided some levity to the process but who knows what the outcome would have been if there were more candidates for office on the ballot.

(11,513 posts)GOPer controlled state legislatures refused to pass legislation allowing mail in ballots to even be touched before election day, if those could have been counted even a day or two ahead it would have avoided a ton of chaos (of course chaos is what trump and GOPers wanted).
And of course there's DeJoy's castration of the post office. Team trump saw to it that mail in ballots would be held up by the US Postal Service, and now they're complaining that it's taking too long to count them and attempting to keep them from being counted.

(70,641 posts)our 18th Century system of gridlock is a mockery.
* Zeus forfend that we should have something simple - like all popular vote, perhaps quadrant regional primaries, everything wrapped up in six months -------------- BUT NOooooo!1
* Federalism? Why, supposing that each individual is equal, should somebody in one area have different access to voting or CHOICE or whatever than somebody in another piece of real estate?
* Electoral College - words are not needed.
* Perpetual campaigning, two terms, three months before the "winner" takes office? The ancient Church debated about 4 year terms for popes and ruled it out precisely because 4 year elections would result in perpetual campaigning.
