Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe new QAnon Conspiracy is that Gore was president-elect for 37 days...
...and, of course, the Supreme Court overturned it.
This is already getting some deep roots with people as they are living in a completely different reality where Gore apparently was declared the winner of the election (NOT FLORIDA) and was president-elect for 37 days.
They even made fake headlines:
But this is the original front page:
Then they've also got some call from a fake news network named AAN:
Of course, none of this is true. At all. Gore was declared the winner of Florida, but it was then retracted the same night - and before he even came anywhere near 270 electoral votes. Shortly after 2:00 ET on election day, 2000, Bush was given Florida and named the President-elect. Gore then conceded. Of course, two hours later, Gore retracted his concession and Florida flipped back to 'too close to call' and Bush was not President-elect anymore.
There's tons of newspaper headlines, though, from the day after the election, that were designed before the final retraction, where Bush was declared the winner.
BUT THEY SEEM TO BELIEVE THIS.
This is the first time I've ever gotten pulled into this deep of crazy. Like, where someone is manipulating evidence to push this narrative that just because the media has called it, it isn't always so - because, in 2000, Gore was president-elect.
This is wild. It's spreading all over twitter and I'm assuming Facebook.
But I thought I'd bring that bat-shit crazy over here so we can enjoy the nuttery together.

(34,857 posts)The conspiracy is basically, for 37 days, Al Gore was acting as if he was President-elect and then the Supreme Court ruled that Bush won Florida and therefore president.
It's to give them hope. It happened once before, it'll happen again! Just look at Al Gore!
They're convinced Florida was called for Gore, he was declared the winner by the media, everyone moved on and then SURPRISE the Supreme Court said nope it's Bush.
And the same will happen to Biden.
Except that didn't happen. AT ALL.

I'm beginning to think that Americans should be required to pass an IQ test in critical thinking skills before they can be allowed free reign on the internet. It sure would prevent a lot of headaches.

(5,267 posts)anything that keeps those gun toting nuts calm is okay by me. That's one reason I was fine with the long rollout of election counting results and media delaying calling the election until it was abundantly clear he had no chance based on vote counts.
