US President-elect Joe Biden promised Saturday to unite Americans and seek to heal divisions after what he called a "convincing" victory over Donald Trump.
"This is the time to heal in America," an ebullient Biden told supporters at an outdoor rally in his home city of Wilmington, Delaware.
"I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify," Biden said, drawing a sharp contrast to nearly four polarizing years of Trump.
Acknowledging the disappointment of Trump supporters, Biden said of them: "They are not our enemies. They are Americans."
"Let this era of demonization in America begin to end here," Biden said.

You remember how he did with CornPop? C'mon man!
Which word makes you cringe though? Convincing?

(7,510 posts)Billions of online hours have been spent by people on both sides creating polarization and attacking the other side. This is in addition to billions of eyeball hours of media political advertisements which have also often focused on attacking the other side rather than presenting a positive choice for the future.
So this election has been different than previous elections which focused more on politicians presenting alternative choices for the future through media distribution. Even on this board many posts talk of vengeance and retribution. And I'm sure there are many sites that are far more vituperative and vitriolic.
We have just finished a great effort at dividing the country. The outcome is a nearly even split in sentiments that are deeply held by large majorities in different geographies. Putting it back together won't be quick or easy.
